As we approach the inauguration of Joe Biden tomorrow as the 46th president of the United States, Washington D.C. is being protected by over 20,000 national guard troops.  Many on the right side of the political spectrum have correctly noted there are more troops guarding the capitol than there are in both Afghanistan and Iraq – combined.

Critics believe this show of force plays into the hands of partisan Democrats who portray Trump supporters as violent extremists unable to come to grips their man lost a ‘free and fair election.’ Admittedly, It disturbs me greatly seeing the capitol of the world’s greatest republic being guarded by troops and razor wire fences.

It also disturbs me greatly that the House Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties can openly suggest that White members of our armed forces may be traitors planning to “do something” to President-elect Biden on inauguration day:

“The Guard is 90 some-odd percent male, and only about 20 percent of white males voted for Biden. You’ve got to figure that in the Guard, which is predominantly more conservative … they’re probably not more than 25 percent of the people there protecting us that voted for Biden. The other 75 percent are in the large class of folks that might want to do something.”

In a rare act of random journalism, even the Washington Post pushed back on this absurdity:

Congressman Cohen’s remarks comes on the heels of reports the Pentagon is “vetting” National Guard troops after reports surfaced of extremist groups potentially posing as guardsmen to infiltrate the capitol security perimeter.

In my opinion, extremist groups infiltrating the National Guard to harm the President-elect seems more suitable for a Hollywood blockbuster than it does real life but the threats are unfortunately very real.

Last Friday, a man was arrested with “unauthorized inauguration credentials,” a loaded handgun, 500 rounds of ammunition and 21 shotgun shells. The next day, a 63 year old woman was arrested near an inauguration checkpoint claiming she was a member of the cabinet and a police officer.

The threats to the President and Vice President elect are real and should be taken as such. That’s why I personally have no problem with the extraordinary security measures in place to protect them but more importantly to protect our republic and the conservative movement.

If God forbid something were to happen to Biden on inauguration day, and with the deep divisions we currently have in our nation, the assasination of the President-elect would irreparably tear this country apart. The political right would of course be blamed before any evidence was presented thus fueling even more division and possibly more violence.

I am NOT saying only Trump supporters instigate violence while excusing the violence Antifa and Black Lives Matter perpetrated on our cities last summer. What I am saying is there are “Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs” extremists on the Right AND on the Left. No one side has a monopoly on the crazies.

During the Capitol riots, there were people clearly identified as Trump supporters – through their own social media, carrying zip ties to arrest members of Congress with some rioters shouting “Hang Mike Pence!” I also have no doubt there were Antifa members among the rioters instigating and perpetrating violence as well.

The last thing the political Right needs is a deranged right winger, or Antifa member posing as a right winger, assassinating the President or Vice President-elect on inauguration day. The extraordinary security is a necessity to protect our leaders and republic, and quite frankly, to protect our conservative movement that the Left would love to permanently destroy.
