Former President Donald Trump called Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney’s decisive defeat “wonderful” for America in a post to Truth Social on Tuesday night.
Cheney is a vocal opponent of the former president, whereas Harriet Hageman, who won the Republican primary, is endorsed by him.
“Congratulations to Harriet Hageman on her great and very decisive WIN in Wyoming,” Trump said.
“This is a wonderful result for America, and a complete rebuke of the Unselect Committee of political Hacks and Thugs. Liz Cheney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions towards others. Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where, I am sure, she will be much happier than she is right now. Thank you WYOMING!”

Although Trump and the outgoing congresswoman used to be allies, the relationship especially soured following January 6, 2021. Cheney serves as the vice chair of the House Select Committee to investigate the riot, but she and outgoing Rep. Adam Kinzinger are the only Republicans on the panel.
Cheney was first elected in 2017 and served as the chair of the House Republican Conference from 2019 to 2021 when she was removed from the position.
