A new sore loser lawsuit filed by the Colorado-based Coalition for Good Governance and six Georgia voters seeks to overturn former Secretary of State Karen Handel’s victory over ex-congressional aide Jon Ossoff in June 20 runoff election for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District.
According to the Associated Press, the law suit, filed Monday in Fulton County Superior Court, claims Georgia’s electronic touchscreen voting system is so riddled with security problems that the results and lacks verifiable paper ballots “it cannot be legally used for elections.” The lawsuit demands a new election.
Why wasn’t this lawsuit filed before the election? Would it have been filed had Ossoff won?
Handel was sworn in June 26 replacing now-HHS Secretary Tom Price.
Atlanta’s CBS46 reports it reached out to Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, and a spokesperson said he couldn’t comment on the lawsuit because he had not seen it. But in a Sunday USA Today opinion piece Kemp said that votes in Georgia are secure and that any accusations to the contrary are baseless.
Kemp has announced that he is running for governor of Georgia in 2018 under the Donald Trump banner.
