Women Turned Out in Large Numbers for Democrats, Proving the GOP Still Has a Communication Problem

With the big wins for the Democrat Party comes the inevitable breakdown of who came out to vote for whom for analysts to pore over, and one thing that stands out in a big way is the fact that women turned out in large numbers to usher their favorite candidates in.

As various exit polls and data show, the majority of women pulled the lever for figures like New York's Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

The easy and immediate reaction is to point the finger at women in anger for contributing to the downfall of society by voting for something or someone that ultimately doesn't have society's best interests in mind, especially their own. Mamdani, for instance, is a radical leftist who has Islamic beliefs, none of which are good for women's rights, but that makes very little difference in the midst of a cultural moment because most of these voters don't understand what Islamic beliefs toward women actually entail, and for women, the shared experience of voting for someone culturally relevant makes uncovering Islamic beliefs a tertiary issue.

Mamdani was sold to them emotionally, not logically. His promises of rent controls, government-run grocery stores, etc., appealed to the angel on their shoulder — as ignorant as that angel was — and that was enough to cast their vote for him.

Women given a more in-depth look into Mamdani's belief system and promises often found themselves at odds with him, as seen in various woman-on-the-street interviews.

I want to emphasize something. It's easy to immediately react angrily at women, but I'm going to tell you now that I'm not sure women should be saddled with all the blame.

I'm going to point my finger at the GOP, because we have gone through another election where the right has more or less written women off and refused to speak their language.

I've written about this before. Back in early 2024, I noticed something Savannah Hernandez mentioned that proved somewhat prophetic. She made a post stating that the GOP keeps driving women away because it refuses to learn how to talk to them in their emotionally based language, continuing to speak at them as they would men.

I couldn't help but agree with her:

Right-leaning politics is very fact-based. It's got stats, figures, numbers, and more logic than you can keep up with at times. This is a very good thing and these qualities should make up the core of every argument and explanation from anyone right of center.

However, whenever you utilize these qualities exclusively, the primary crowd you're going to find listening is men. Men are very logical creatures. "Simple and logical" is our brain's bread and butter. This is why conservatism primarily appeals to the male of our species.

As Hernandez explains, this isn't going to be as effective for women who are more emotionally driven creatures. They feel their thoughts and understand something best when it affects their heart.

Speaking of logic, this seemed like a very common-sense take.

If I journey to a place like Argentina to try to sell a product I make, it does no good for me to continue to try to speak English to people who don't speak the language at all. I might sell some of my product through demonstration, but ultimately, I have to learn to speak the language to sell what I've got for maximum profit.

However, whenever I bring up the fact that the GOP should learn how to speak the emotionally based language of women, many people on the right dismiss the idea, sometimes even angrily. The idea that the Republican Party should delve into the language of emotion is, in the opinion of some, childish and could lead to the party putting more importance on appealing to feelings than facts.

This isn't what I'm getting at all.

I'm saying that there is a way to sell facts on a more emotionally based level. Personalizing positions is a fantastic way to get facts and figures across to women. Telling them stories that frame a position in a way that is far more caring and heartfelt moves the female of our species more than just displaying cold, hard facts does.

Mamdani was able to sell government-run grocery stores and rent control by telling women that this was the best way to take care of the poor and disadvantaged. Notice Democrats are attacking the Republican shutdown by pointing out that "children will go hungry without SNAP benefits." These are emotional appeals, not factual ones, but they work because women are nurturing and caring by nature.

Remember when Glenn Youngkin won Virginia? It happened off the back of parents rising up to fight back against an indoctrination of racism and sexism that was happening against their children. It was personal.

When it comes to various issues, the GOP needs to learn how to be multilingual. Keep facts and figures. Men love these. But also learn how to translate that into a more emotionally based message for women. Once the GOP learns how to do this and does it consistently, the Democrats will lose a massive part of their voting base.
