Government is a necessary evil. Mankind is a species that acts as individuals, and not everyone's individual needs, ambitions, and values align, creating the need for an entity that holds people to an agreed-upon set of rules that, when ignored, come with punishments. It's a sad necessity, but without it, we'd have pure chaos. Law and order — when applied properly and fairly — help advance society and keep the people safe.
The American government is no different. We have these rules to help keep the nation on track and to protect the people from threats both foreign and domestic.
But some local governments seem to have a different idea, and it's one that runs wholly contrary to the purpose of a government.
This is what a "sanctuary city" is at its heart — something that is against the people, because its very nature is to benefit a group of people other than Americans. What's more, because these are people who exist inside the system without being a part of it, the accountability for their actions decreases both from the government and the individual.
For Democrats who are so proud of their sanctuary cities, the last thing they want to be is wrong about how they allow everything from petty crime to drug trafficking to rape to happen with these policies. The evidence is there, plain as day...
... but at no point will they admit it. Instead, they dress it up as a noble thing to do.
It's always framed in terms of helping the less fortunate, having empathy, and helping your fellow man. The only reason this ever works is because — like most leftist lies — there's a grain of truth to it that they can exploit for narrative purposes. A lot of those people who come across the border really are just looking for a better life and something better for their children.
The major issue is; a lot of them don't. They're here to exploit our system, enrich themselves, and that oftentimes means taking part in heinous crimes, including trafficking of every variety.
That's not even mentioning foreign agents that come across our border to serve the interests of their own government, be they the Chinese government or terrorist organizations.
President Donald Trump mentioned in his Monday press conference that he's going to focus on getting rid of sanctuary cities because they are a "sanctuary for criminals."

And that is completely correct.
Even if the Democrats are protecting non-citizens who just want a better life, they are also protecting all the elements that endanger the people and the nation. There's no way around that.
Moreover, the only people benefiting from a sanctuary city are the criminals. Even the illegals who come here in order to work and cause as little trouble as possible end up being victims of traffickers, dealers, gangs, and cartels.
According to International Affairs Review, a whopping 72 percent of trafficking victims are immigrants, with the vast majority being women around the age of 20. Women and children are particularly vulnerable due to their lack of education, inability to speak English, and being forced to find employment behind closed doors, where U.S. laws are ignored.
This immediately makes any claim that they're helping out the least fortunate completely moot. The left's lofty idea of protecting women is completely destroyed here, and while they don't seem to care as much about children, the rest of us do.
If sanctuary cities are so moral, then Democrats are going to have to square their claim with the fact that they're staging grounds for some of the worst crimes of the modern era, committed not just against immigrants, but against all of us.
How many people have to be murdered, raped, killed in accidents, bought and sold, assaulted, stolen from, or even just left without a job because of sanctuary city policies? These policies certainly don't benefit the American people. They only harm us.
The Democrats can pretend they're being the good guys in the room all day, but you can only hide the truth for so long before the facts start getting out. Every commitment to a sanctuary city is just one more promise that Democrats are going to plague the American people with a problem we shouldn't be having in the first place. It's just another admission that they aren't really on our side, they're on someone else's.
