Senate Republicans Snatch Democrat 'Gun-Safety' Bill From the Jaws of Defeat

Leave it to the spineless to allow the authoritarians to have their way.

The “Safer Communities Act,” which Democrats and 14 Republicans are calling a “common sense” advancement to keep our community safe from guns is really just the beginning of the Democrat’s plans to circumvent the 2nd Amendment and intrude on the people’s ability to own firearms.

All Republicans had to say was “no,” but Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and a handful of other Republican senators jumped on board, parroting the same talk we’ve been hearing from the left for some time now.

According to Fox News, the Senate has now cleared the path for the final passage of the words “bipartisan” echoing out of every mouth and working speaker:

“This is an incredibly important day in the United States Senate. Final passage will be either later today or early tomorrow, and we will be well on our way to saving 1000s of lives in this country,” Murphy said Thursday. “30 years Congress has done nothing to try to address the epidemic of school shootings and murders and suicides in this country. And while this doesn’t do everything we need to do. This is a way that we show it’s possible to break the logjam.”

“Our legislation will save lives and will not infringe on any law-abiding American’s Second Amendment rights,” Cornyn said. “We look forward to earning broad, bipartisan support and passing our commonsense legislation into law.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is one of the Republicans who supports the bill. He said Thursday that it does not “lay one finger on the Second Amendment.”

While this bill may pass the Senate, it’s looking like it will find resistance in the House.

As RedState previously reported, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) will be formally whipping votes against the bill with House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy also saying he will vote against it.

According to Fox News, House Republicans are no fan of the bill:

“In an effort to slowly chip away at law-abiding citizens’ 2nd Amendment rights, this legislation takes the wrong approach in attempting to curb violent crimes,” Scalise said in a whip notice Wednesday.

“Since Biden’s election, Democrats have failed at every level. There’s literally only one way Republicans can lose the midterms,” Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., said in a press conference. “That’s exactly what these 14 RINOs, Republicans in name only, have done in the Senate.”

While some Republicans are likely to vote for the bill in the House, reports say that this won’t reach the 20 necessary votes to pass it.

The bill represents a clear threat to the gun rights of the American people with the introduction of “Red Flag Laws,” a way to strip guns from citizens without a trial and a way to make a citizen guilty until proven innocent in our society by the law of the land. It also doles out well over a billion dollars to various agencies to better enforce these laws.

Any Republican worth his or her salt would immediately kick this bill to the curb, but it would appear there are 14 Republicans in the Senate who lack the wisdom to understand the dangers this law represents.

Vote accordingly.
