The Left’s Damage Control on Afghanistan Is as Disgusting as It Is Desperate

No one should be surprised that once the Biden administration began failing so catastrophically that the left would do what it could to defend the Democrat Party’s honor and legacy. We knew the failures would come eventually, but the events unfolding in Afghanistan will forever be one of the Democrat Party’s biggest black marks on their history, you know, right next to slavery and fighting against civil rights.

The question is, how does one defend Biden and the Democrats from a failure so atrocious that even members of the leftist media don’t even try to spin it?

Easy…you point at Republicans and equate them to the villains of the story.

Case in point, Late Show host Stephen Colbert had a serious moment on his show where he defended president Biden’s troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, but then quickly went from talking about actual terrorists to people they claim are terrorists.

“He’s right,” Colbert said. “Why should our soldiers be fighting radicals in a civil war in Afghanistan? We’ve got our own on Capitol Hill.”

As he said this, an image of the January 6 rioters appeared.

According to Fox News, Joy Reid took the same route on MSNBC:

MSNBC host Joy Reid came under fire Saturday for comparing the religious right in the United States to the Taliban, claiming they want to force women “solely into childbirth” and out of the workforce.

“This is the real-life Handmaid’s Tale,” Reid tweeted, comparing the situation in Afghanistan to the novel and dystopian drama series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” where women are portrayed as property and forced to bear children.

“A true cautionary tale for the U.S., which has our own far religious right dreaming of a theocracy that would impose a particular brand of Christianity, drive women from the workforce and solely into childbirth, and control all politics,” the tweet continued.

As the Daily Wire covered, actress Rosanna Arquette also compared the Taliban to Republicans, and also brought up January 6:

“The Taliban extremists are here in America just with a different name,” the star of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series “Ratched” tweeted Sunday afternoon to her nearly 200,000 followers. “The GOP right-wing extremists who support destroying democracy are the Terrorists in America and will continue to terrorize America until they are stopped and pay for their crimes against Americans Jan 6th.”

Michael Moore also did the exact same in a tweet of his own.

“Their Taliban, our Taliban, everybody’s got a Taliban. They’re at their best when they confiscate the halls of power,” he tweeted.

I don’t think I need to go too far into how Republicans, and even the Capitol Hill rioters, are nothing like the Islamic extremist terrorist groups in the Middle East who kill, rape, torture, terrorize, conduct human rights violations as a standard practice, and are deep into sex slavery. The rioters may have been where they weren’t supposed to be and caused a lot of chaos, but terrorists, slavers, and rapists, they are not. The fact that I even have to say that shows how ridiculous our partisanship in this nation has become.

But it does lead me to my point.

Colbert, Moore, and everyone else like them suffer from a delusion that they wish to push on everyone else no matter how deep into ludicrous territory they have to venture. They want you to see the world as they do, where people they merely disagree with politically are the ultimate evil in the universe and will do such evils that they equate to the medieval barbarity of actual evil people. So caught up in their own hatred and bigotry that they cannot see reality.

What’s more, they can’t handle the idea that their own side has failed so monumentally. They’re desperate to point the finger somewhere else, or at the very least, convince everyone that the enemy abroad is nothing compared to the enemy at home. They’re right, but the enemy abroad is nightmares made manifest.

They’re desperate, not just to convince you but themselves. They’re brainwashed and desperately need you to confirm their reality by keeping you on their side.

Thing is, one doesn’t have to like the other side in order to understand reality. While extremes on both sides of the political aisle are often displayed on television, to say Democrats and Republicans are only capable of fitting into one hardcore column or another is as unrealistic as it is damaging to our society. We can disagree without resorting to calling one another terrorists, rapists, racists, bigots, or whatever vitriolic word is on the lips of talking heads today.

In a just world, people would be laughed off the stage when they make claims like this, but sadly Colbert and Moore aren’t alone. There are brainwashed people who like their mental conditioning. It helps them make sense of the world. It simplifies it. It gives them someone to point at whenever things go wrong. These people will watch Biden shoot a puppy in the street and they will tell you he had to do it because Republicans don’t care enough about puppies to set aside funding for animal shelters. They’ll watch AOC sacrifice a child to a volcano god and they’ll proclaim she did it because Republicans are too racist to give these people any representation in society.

They’ll watch as Biden allows an entire country to be overrun by terrorists, ushering in an era of death, rape, and sex slavery, and they’ll tell you that Republicans are just as evil in an effort to distract you and themselves.

It’s disgusting, but more than that, it’s desperate.
