Merriam-Webster Is Changing Definitions to Assist Democrats in Attacking Amy Coney Barrett

Merriam-Webster should no longer be looked at as trustworthy.

Defining words is supposed to be an impartial business to the groups we trust to keep track of the English language, but it would appear that the west’s most famous organization for keeping track of what words mean has an agenda. Wouldn’t you know it? It lines up right with the Democrats agenda.

According to National Review, Merriam-Websters had defined “preference” to include sexual orientation, but the moment Judge Amy Coney Barrett used the term during her Supreme Court hearing, the left suddenly found a reason to take offense to it despite never having had a problem with it for years, especially when the media was using it constantly.

The outrage began with MSNBC Senior Producer Kyle Griffin suddenly finding himself outraged that Barrett would use such a phrase as “sexual preference.”

This started something of an angry outrage-fest among the left — redundant to say — and as National Review reported, Merriam-Webster soon jumped into action, changing up the definition in order for the outrage to have some legitimacy:

Until recently, the dictionary had defined “preference” to include reference to sexual orientation, but on Tuesday, the official definition was edited to include a note that the word’s usage in that context is “offensive.”

“The term preference as used to refer to sexual orientation is widely considered offensive in its implied suggestion that a person can choose who they are sexually or romantically attracted to,” Merriam-Webster stated in a note below the definition.

As National Review points out, this isn’t the first time Merriam-Webster acted politically:

This is not the first time Merriam-Webster has changed a politically fraught definition. In June, the dictionary announced that it would add the concept of “systemic racism” to its definition of “racism” in response to a complaint. Last year, Merriam-Webster added another definition of the pronoun “they” to reflect its use by individuals who view themselves as neither male nor female.

The left can take offense to whatever they want to, and they do with reckless abandon, but when our institutions that help define our communication with one another become politically agenda-driven, then the power needs to be taken out of their hands. Impartiality in how we define our words and phrases is far more important than we as a society understand and if one side of the aisle can control what our words and phrases mean, especially at the drop of a hat, then everyone else has already lost the war.
