The RNC has only completed its second day and President Donald Trump hasn’t gotten up to make his own speech yet, but it would appear that despite this, he’s closing the gap in battleground states against his opponent, Joe Biden.
According to CNBC, Trump is nipping at Biden’s heels everywhere except not Carolina, where the race is nearly tied:
Despite the increase in the president’s approval rating in six states that will help to determine who wins the election, the poll shows a challenging environment for him. Swing-state voters said by a 51% to 49% margin that they think Biden and Democrats would do a better job than Trump and the GOP of handling the coronavirus.
Though the survey shows a competitive presidential race, it found Biden leading Trump by a 49% to 46% margin across the key states. He has an edge over the incumbent in five of the six states, while North Carolina is virtually tied.
Arizona: Biden 49%, Trump 47%
Florida: Biden 49%, Trump 46%
Michigan: Biden 50%, Trump 44%
North Carolina: Biden 48%, Trump 47%
Pennsylvania: Biden 49%, Trump 46%
Wisconsin: Biden 49%, Trump 44%
This is great news for Republicans though we’ve seen a Democrat lead Trump in polls before he still won the election back in 2016. Interestingly, Biden isn’t doing as well as his predecessor did in some of the swing states. Looking back, Hillary Clinton had even more of a lead than Biden does now in battleground states.
Weirdly, as Frank Luntz shows us, some pollsters are telling a different story.
Swing state polls on August 25th:
Pennsylvania
• 2016: Hillary +9.2
• 2020: Biden +5.7Michigan
• 2016: Hillary +9.0
• 2020: Biden +6.7Wisconsin
• 2016: Hillary +11.5
• 2020: Biden +6.5Florida
• 2016: Hillary +2.9
• 2020: Biden +4.8👉🏻 https://t.co/oJFSBQcvK3 https://t.co/7DibWSRCSb

Again, Trump is still set to give his own speech, and the RNC altogether still has two days left. The RNC is obliterating the DNC in terms of viewership according to The Hill, delivering six times the viewership and showing far more interest for Republicans than Democrats…and that’s on CSPAN alone:
C-SPAN’s livestream of the first night of the Republican National Convention has attracted nearly 440,000 views, marking a substantial increase over the start of the Democratic National Convention, which drew 76,000 views.
Biden’s speech drew in a total of 21.8 million viewers, but it still falls short of the 34.9 million viewers Trump’s acceptance speech at the RNC drew in 2016. It’s likely that the President’s speech at this year’s RNC on Thursday will draw in more than Biden’s if this keeps up.
After the President’s speech, it’s likely poll numbers will go up even further and Biden will have a more challenging race on his hands.
