Dave Chappelle to the rescue.

Kanye West had something of a breakdown while in front of a crowd which reportedly caused his wife, Kim Kardashian, to fly down to where Kanye was staying in Wyoming and brought a doctor along with her.

According to TMZ, Kanye went on a Twitter rant on Monday accusing Kardashian of trying to have him involuntarily committed to a mental hospital.

“Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughters life yesterday,” West tweeted.

As my colleague Kira Davis reported, the rant also included tweets against Kris Jenner and various other celebrities. Sources have reported that he’s in the middle of a psychotic episode and needs help, however, having himself committed must be West’s decision.

Perhaps that’s one reason comedian Dave Chappelle flew all the way out to where West was located. West sent out another tweet on Tuesday featuring a video where he’s joined by Chappelle and some other men. Kanye asked Chappelle to tell a funny joke in order to lighten the world a bit, to which Chappelle joked that he’s not capable of making jokes before coffee.

That caused the group to laugh and agree that that the joke had already been made.

It’s currently unclear if Chappelle’s purpose is to try to bring West back down from his current bi-polar episode or urge him to get help, though one thing is clear: He’s there to help in any way he can.

Twitter users who are applauding Chappelle and the video are also bringing up a separate video where Chappelle is speaking in an interview about celebrities who seem to have these mental breakdowns. In it, he tells the story of Martin Lawrence, a comedian that Chappelle looks up to, and who had an episode of his own years back.

He noted that there’s something about Hollywood that can tear a person down, and if Lawrence, whom Chappelle names as one of the strongest people he knows, was brought low, then there’s something wrong with Hollywood. He also names others who had breakdowns, including himself and Mariah Carrey.

“The worst thing to call somebody is crazy,” said Chappelle in the interview. “It’s dismissive.”

“I don’t understand this person, so they’re crazy,” said Chappelle mocking the ignorance. “That’s bulls**t. These people are not crazy. They’re strong people. Maybe the environment is a little sick.”

Chappelle seems to have a much deeper understanding of what Hollywood does to people than others do, even amongst his fellow celebrities. Chappelle’s position as an uncompromising comedian may be lending him some insight that many others lack.

So it’s no surprise that he’s the one flying all the way out to help his friend Kanye West in person.
