2020 Democratic candidate and Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard isn’t jumping onto the impeachment bandwagon like most Democrats are and believes that if President Donald Trump is going to be pushed out of office, it should be a result of the wishes of the people, not the politicians.

Appearing on Hill.TV, Gabbard shrugged at the transcript concerning a conversation Trump had with the Ukrainian president about the corruption charges surrounding Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son. According to Gabbard, if Democrats looked to the rest of America to gauge the way it feels about impeachment, Democrats wouldn’t go down that road.

“I think when you step outside of the bubble here in Washington and you get to where most folks in the country are — look, I’m not a lawyer, but I think most people reading through that transcript are not going to find that extremely compelling cause to throw out a president that won an election in 2016,” Gabbard said. “Instead, I think what most people will see is, hey, this is another move by Democrats to get rid of Donald Trump, further deepening the already hyper-partisan divides that we have in this country.”

Gabbard said that while she’s running to defeat Trump, who she says isn’t fit for office, kicking him out of office is not Democrat lawmaker’s decision to make.

“I just think it is so important for our country to be able to move forward, to bridge these divides, that it be the American people that make this decision,” said Gabbard

Gabbard seems to be one of the few Democrats who is actually paying attention to the polls. The American people have continuously rejected the idea of impeaching by a good majority since the question was brought up back when Trump was even first elected.

The latest poll from Quinnipiac showed the same, with 57 percent of Americans saying that impeaching Trump isn’t a good idea, vs only 37 saying it is.

What’s more, this impeachment process would require an investigation into the Ukraine phone call, which may end up hurting Biden more than Trump.

Gabbard seems to be one of the few Democrats who isn’t letting emotion or an advanced case of TDS drive her decision making. This will, no doubt, make her wildly unpopular within Democrat circles, as the majority of her colleagues are on board with this plan of action.

But we’ll see how it plays out with voters. Gabbard seems to have a knack for survival, and she likely owes it to her ability to appeal to moderates within the Democrat party who would otherwise have cold feet voting for radicals like Warren or Sanders. This appeal to let the people decide may show her as having character, and that may attract independents.

Time will tell, but one thing is almost guaranteed, Trump won’t be impeached and Gabbard will have an “I told you so” lined up for the future.
