New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) has now joined in on the calls for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, though she may find herself with a lot less support than she’d hope, and call down a lot more trouble than she bargained.

Ocasio-Cortez sent out a tweet on Tuesday saying that not impeaching Trump in the face of “overwhelming evidence” is as “politicized a maneuver” as impeaching without a cause. She then suggested that Congress swore an oath to the Constitution and that the rule of law must be upheld.

It is just as politicized a maneuver to not impeach in the face of overwhelming evidence as it is to impeach w/o cause.

She also took the same tone during a CNN interview on Tuesday.

“We have to move forward,” Ocasio-Cortez told CNN. “I trust the Speaker’s taking a measured approach to ensure that we’re moving everyone forward.”

“Being a Speaker is hard, and holding this party together is a difficult task,” she added, “but I think we have to move forward.”

What “overwhelming evidence” AOC has, she’s not elaborating on. What’s more, her calls for impeachment may fall on deaf ears, even that of her own party’s leadership. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has made it clear that impeachment Trump is just “not worth it.” However, Ocasio-Cortez is joining a chorus of Democrat politicians calling for the impeachment. Some believe that Pelosi can’t hold out much longer.

Still, even with Democrats inching toward calling for impeachment, they lack the support of the American people. According to one poll, America’s interest in impeaching Trump has declined significantly. Even 30 percent of Democrats think the issue is a non-starter, and even a drag on the party.

With impeachment not being as popular as Democrats may have hoped, AOC is particularly vulnerable to banging the drum on issues that don’t really concern the populace. After her Amazon debacle, a movement has already sprung up in New York to remove Ocasio-Cortez from office. A poll shows that even among the left, they consider her a “villain” over her efforts to push Amazon and the jobs it would have brought away.

If AOC wants to harp on unimportant matters to Democrat voters while spiking footballs over taking jobs away from them, she may give one more reason to her constituency to vote her out.
