The House funding bill that was flatly rejected contained within it all sorts of ridiculous spending, including putting money aside to fund abortions outside of the U.S.
According to the Washington Examiner, anti-abortion advocates are up in arms over the discovery that the bill would allocate millions of dollars to a fund that they claim promotes coercive abortions and forced sterilizations:
The spending bill would repeal a provision instituted by President Trump that requires foreign nongovernmental organizations to certify that they will not “perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning.” The provision, formally known as the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance policy, was once called the Mexico City Policy, known by critics as the “global gag rule.”
The bill also would increase funding by $5 million for the United Nations Population Fund, to $37.5 million. Anti-abortion organizations oppose the program because they say it participates in coercive abortions and involuntary sterilizations.
This exists in the same bipartisan Senate bill that sailed through the Senate Appropriations Committee. Trump cut off funding to non-governmental family planning centers that promote the act of abortion, and this bill seeks to restore the missing funding.
“A strong majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List.
Dannenfelser added that repealing this policy would make “taxpayers complicit in the exportation of abortion and destruction of countless unborn children around the world. This is unconscionable and we oppose the bill in the strongest terms.”
Regardless of the bill’s success in the house, it’s not likely to get passed the Republican Senate, nor will it survive Trump’s desk. Regardless, this is what the Democrats are willing to throw millions of dollars at while ignoring border security wholesale, going to far as to outright refuse to hear about the southern border during briefings according to Washington officials.
Odd, since Sen. Chuck Schumer himself is on video admitting walls help provide security, and that illegal immigration is harmful.
