CNN Terminates Their Contract with Marc Lamont Hill Over Israel Comments

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Apparently, there are even lines CNN won’t cross, and contributor Marc Lamont Hill found it.

On Wednesday, Hill decided to use Hamas style language while speaking the United Nations and called for violence in Israel by Palestinians who Hill claimed were in occupied territory.

“If we are in true solidarity with the Palestinian people, we must allow the Palestinian people the same range of opportunity and political possibility,” said Hill. “If we are standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people, we must recognize the right of an occupied people to defend itself. We must prioritize peace, but we must not romanticize or fetishize it. We must advocate and promote non-violence at every opportunity, but we cannot endorse a narrow politics of respectability that shames Palestinians for resisting, for refusing to do nothing in the face of state violence and ethnic cleansing.”

“We have an opportunity to not just offer solidarity in words but to commit to political action, grass-roots action, local action and international action that will give us what justice requires and that is a free Palestine from the river to the sea,” Hill added.

“From the river to the sea” is terminology used by Hamas to indicate the elimination of Israel.

Now, according to Mediaite, a CNN spokesperson told the publication that Hill’s contract has been terminated as a result of his anti-Semitic statements.

“Marc Lamont Hill is no longer under contract with CNN,” the spokesperson told Mediaite.

This comes after Hill’s statements were condemned by the Anti-Defamation League and the National Council of Young Israel on Thursday.

While I’m happy to see CNN draw lines in the sand, it would be nice if these lines were consistent. Don Lemon, not long ago, called white men the largest terrorist threat in the United States, claiming most of them are radicalized to the right and that it’s time we did something about them.

CNN is still host to highly racist views, but it would appear that it’s very selective about what it wants to get angry over.
