Beto O'Rourke Labels Police as Racist, Claims They Are the New Jim Crow

FILE - In this June 22, 2018, file photo, Beto O'Rourke speaks during the general session at the Texas Democratic Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and the ex-punk rocker turned Democratic congressman trying to upset him, O’Rourke, don’t agree on much. But both introduced bills prohibiting U.S. authorities from separating children from parents charged with crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally prior to President Donald Trump’s executive order last week doing much the same thing(AP Photo/Richard W. Texas Senate challenger to Ted Cruz, Beto O’Rourke, is proving that he’s willing to sink as low as possible into the depths of the hard left.

This time, O’Rourke took aim at police, essentially calling them racists during a town hall at Prairie View A&M University.

The video was transcribed by Ryan Saavedra at the Daily Wire who has the original report:

O’Rourke stated, “Talking about criminal justice reform, let’s talk about where this problem started. When contractors needed labor, they would talk to local law enforcement who would arrest African-Americans for idling, for petty crimes, frivolous offenses. Those contractors would describe the number of bodies that they needed and law enforcement would provide those bodies. And when they look at the remains in that graveyard, they see evidence of muscles literally torn from the bone, people being worked to death in these convict chain gangs, people who became convicts solely by dint of the color of their skin, in a system that was radically unjust, following what we thought was the end of that injustice at the end of the Civil War.”

O’Rourke continued, “That injustice, to many more people here than I know firsthand, continues to persist today. That system of suspending somebody, solely based on the color of their skin; searching that person solely based on the color of their skin; stopping that person solely based on the color of their skin; shooting that person solely based on the color of their skin; throwing the book at that person and letting them rot behind bars solely based on the color of their skin, is why some have called this, I think it is an apt description, the new Jim Crow.”

As the son of a police officer who was raised around police officers, this comment from O’Rourke is not only completely insulting, but it’s overwhelmingly disgusting. This continued narrative by the hard left that claims police are evil has always been one that promotes the false narrative that police are just out to get minorities.

What’s more, these narratives are completely untrue and generate unnecessary outrage and place blame on innocent people. These false narratives grow and end up starting riots like the kind seen in Ferguson and Baltimore after legitimate police actions that are easily spun into believed tales of oppressors unfairly targeting groups.

People are hurt, businesses are destroyed, and lives are ruined because of narratives like this spread like wildfire, fueled by the media and politicians like Beto O’Rourke.

Police are citizens like you and me who put on uniforms and put themselves between us and danger every day. Do they make mistakes? Of course, they do. They’re human. These mistakes are an exception, however, not a rule. Police are regular people who have volunteered to deal with things you and I are blessedly free from thanks to them.

That said, I find it odd that O’Rourke would say this about police as a blanket statement, especially seeing as how many police officers are black, Hispanic, etc. If O’Rourke is trying to appeal to race-based hysteria, why did he make these statements about police when police officers run the gambit of ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and religions?

This remark by O’Rourke is a gross mischaracterization of brave people, and he should be ashamed for it.
