The RNC is a firestorm of drama, but one person staying away from the garbage fire that is Trump-fest, is Kentucky Senator, Rand Paul.

For those who aren’t aware, Rand Paul isn’t just a highly popular politician, he’s also a celebrated eye surgeon. He’s no stranger to taking a break from his political career to help the poor regain their eyesight through free surgeries. He even went so far as to take a break during the 2016 campaign to head to Haiti to perform surgeries there.

Before the RNC started, Rand Paul sat down and spoke with Kitco news and informed them that he’d be skipping the RNC to heal the blind, and that’s just what he did.

So while the RNC is in chaos, Rand Paul is restoring a little peace, one surgery at a time.

A video posted by Paul shows the results of one of his surgeries. Working out of Paducah Kentucky, a woman named Rita was thrilled when she was able to see clearly for the first time in a long time.

“Rita has been legally blind for about 6 years until today. I’m so happy for her. This is why I love being a doctor and doing pro-bono surgeries,” said Paul.
