The majority of the press spent the past week being notably pedantic. Between what they chose to cover and what they chose to overlook, it was a tiring stretch. The post-Super Bowl window meant that raving about Bad Bunny just HAD to take place, as if most of the coverage had been written before the kickoff. Of course, the press could not lay off immigration issues, with recalibration of things seen in many outlets.
Meanwhile, more improved economic news emerged, and this was a problem. You cannot report on anything positive if it reflects well on the president. Therefore, the choices were to ignore it or spin it as a negative. And in a telling example, as new Epstein files had been released, it made little impact on the news, partially because there were exonerating Details regarding Trump, and partly because Democrat figures were exposed.
There was plenty to have the press unspooling, so let's tug on our hip waders and wade through the swamp of news outlets this past week.
THE CONTENDERS
CBS News – In a weepy report, they detail the growing number of immigrants self-deporting because they “lose hope” in their cases. The network got the media excited by saying only 14 percent of detained illegals were found to have “violent” crime history, but it ignored things like drug trafficking, sex assaults, and child endangerment. In a sympathetic immigrant piece, it highlighted a mother missing her son’s funeral, but low-lighted that she had entered the country illegally four times. They gave a sympathetic report on an Irish detainee, minimizing that he overstayed a visa by two decades and has a record of drug crimes in his home nation.
ABC News – Tried to demonize immigration enforcement for costing $40 million, a shadow of just the Minnesota fraud cases. The good economic reports were spun as defying tariff fears. David Muir made Trump’s rollback of emission standards out to be an overnight attack on the environment. The network had to go with the rote raving about Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl.
New York Times – With 20 deaths occurring in the cold weather after his policy to pull back police street sweeps, the paper thought a profile on Mayor Zohran Mamdani shopping for a winter coat was a crucial move. When most people were mocking the disaster of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Munich, the paper said she only had “some shaky moments.”

NBC News – We were told Americans were turning away from Trump’s immigration crackdown, citing a poll taken immediately after Alex Pretti’s shooting, and sampling 40 percent of the people who did not even vote in the last election. While journos were prodding U.S. athletes to criticize the Trump administration, the Today Show swooned over Eileen Gu representing communist China. For some reason, the network decided to continue complaining that Hispanics have not adopted “Latinx” as a label for themselves.
THE WINNER

AXIOS
The site led the charge with claims that the SAVE Act would prevent tens of millions of women from being able to vote.
With a report of violent crime dropping across the country, Axios said this was achieved “despite” President Trump asserting there was a need to battle crime. (This is like saying the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl despite outscoring New England.)
Axios just deleted this despite the ratio pic.twitter.com/LO1AhkfOAa

Later, after the mockery, they deleted that embarrassing post.
There was also the attempt to sell us on the concept that voters are now pining for Joe Biden.
The outlet tried to drive a wedge between Tom Homan and Kristi Noem, but Homan shot those claims down on CNN.
In a bit of dramatic desperation, the site listed FIVE of the big deportation mistakes by the administration – among the 675,000 deportations that have taken place.
Editor's Note: The mainstream media continues to deflect, gaslight, spin, and lie about President Trump, his administration, and conservatives.
