Manipulated media, deceptively edited videos, altered audio tracks, contorted facts, and any other means of delivering fake news have perpetually been the claim by many in the press circles of “misinformation” being peddled and posing as a threat to our democracy. (Their call during these panicked lectures to curtail the First Amendment is NOT to be interpreted as a constitutional threat, somehow.)
Yet, when members of their very class of journalists and news outlets are seen committing the very same sin that is normally bleated about, the outrage and garment-rending concern never seems to emerge. Look back recently to when the BBC was exposed with its editing scandal. It made the news, sure, but the likes of Brian Stelter and others were not only lacking in concern with their commentary; they were actually defending the British outlet.
Now comes another example on our shores, and the crickets from the press are deafening. At MS NOW, Nicolle Wallace — that consistent fount of prefab factual content — was covering the story of the Minneapolis shooting of Alex Pretti. Not a soul will be shocked to learn which side of this story Nicky is landing on, but the lengths gone to demonize the administration are the telling detail here.
As Wallace was setting up her stemwinder of a monologue, the screen cut to a still image of Pretti. It is the employee photo of the man from the hospital where he worked. This had been displayed previously by networks as well as circulating on social media. And for that reason, people began to notice something rather curious: The image portrayed onscreen by MS NOW was stark in appearance. That is to say, it was obviously altered.
Genuinely embarrassing. Pretending they’re the “eyes and ears” network now. Give me a break, lady. pic.twitter.com/cyZI5f1ECz

Pretti was now looking much more hale and vibrant. He was sporting a tan, his face was filled out, and his features altered. His eyes were fuller, his nose trimmed, and the smile appeared slightly broader. It is rather clear that they used AI to enhance this appearance. It is a gross piece of media manipulation, using a dead man to score political points by straining to make him a digital martyr. This grotesquerie was then made much worse by the hostess.

As this contorted visual evidence was displayed, Wallace was in the midst of a scorching attack on President Trump, and her choice of words could not have been more disqualifying: "Donald Trump and his administration are demanding once again that you do not believe your eyes and ears."

Unreal. How divorced from decency and ethics do you need to be to excoriate others over a perceived insistence that you disregard sensory input, while displaying manufactured evidence – at the very same time?!
Look, that this took place on MS NOW is no shock to the system. This is a news network that not only delivers skewed content but traffics in projection on the regular. Most anything they accuse the Trump administration of involves actions they are partaking in. It is a common occurrence.
The issue is how no one else in media circles appears to be bothered by this display. Whether it is Stelter, Politifact, or the squadron of fact-checkers spread across the media landscape, one would expect somebody in the industry to stand up and call out this practice by Nicolle Wallace and her network. If you are going to screech over the alleged poison that is misinformation, then you should be calling out any form of this journalistic toxin.
Instead, the silence over this indicates one thing. The press is not concerned about false information; it instead wants to use the accusation as a convenient cudgel to target those dispensing disapproved information. The sham is exposed by the reality of “It’s okay when we do it.” It gets exposed because, in truth, they are simply not that good at it.
Editor's Note: The mainstream media continues to deflect, gaslight, spin, and lie about President Trump, his administration, and conservatives.
