When a Republican starts to crumble and flail, my first instinct is to stay out of the way. Perhaps that's because of some misguided hope they'll find their way to sanity without the need to lambast them. That's clearly not happening with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who announced she's resigning from the House of Representatives in January. Her sudden move puts an already razor-thin majority in further peril as a less-than-inviting mid-term environment comes into view, but it's how Greene has messaged her departure that is making the most waves.
SEE: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces She's Resigning From Congress
To be sure, the Georgia congresswoman has been losing it for a while now. Over the last year, she's developed a deranged obsession with Israel, using her platform to spread baseless conspiracy theories about Jews controlling the United States. Her political positions have also vacillated wildly. She went from being an outspoken proponent of immigration enforcement to suggesting that deportations of illegal aliens are hurting the economy. Some have speculated that it has to do with her owning a construction company.
More recently, she joined with Democrats during the shutdown debate, deriding Republicans for not passing an extension of COVID-era temporary subsidies that have been keeping Obamacare artificially afloat. Then, on Friday, after President Donald Trump pulled his endorsement of her, she suddenly resigned, claiming that she was the true leader of the MAGA movement. Since then, her mental break has only escalated further.
Oh I haven’t suffered enough for you while you post all day behind a screen?

Do I have to stay until I’m assassinated like our friend Charlie Kirk.
Will that be good enough for you then?
Shit posting on the internet all day isn’t fighting.
Get off YOUR ass and run for… https://t.co/jhbqxHi3Vt
Apparently, she felt strongly enough to repost a screenshot of her ramblings on her official account as well. She further exenuated the drama by claiming those asking her to finish out her term were telling her to "shut up and get back in the kitchen and fix me something to eat."
Typical of Republican men telling a woman to “shut up get back in the kitchen and fix me something to eat.”

F*ck you in the sweetest most southern drawl I can enunciate.

It's not a secret that I've never been a Greene fan. Yes, the fire alarm thing was funny, and she's had a few good moments during hearings (which are only good for their entertainment value), but I generally believe that the fewer lunatics we have in Washington, the better, and there is no doubt she's a lunatic. I won't get into her private life, but let's just say it's colorful.
Meanwhile, Greene's time in the House has been marked by a complete lack of achievement, coupled with a narcissistic need to grandstand her way into the spotlight. Her unwillingness to entertain the possibility that the "Epstein Files" don't contain any new major bombshells, coupled with her proliferation of evidence-free accusations involving "Mossad," has only driven her further over the edge.
In short, Greene is not well. This is a woman so deep down the rabbit hole that she can't see daylight anymore. Whatever she may be marginally right about (I have no problem releasing what's left of the "Epstein Files," for example) has been completely overriden by her conspiratorial derangement and fame-seeking. With her resignation comes a deep need to return to Georgia and touch grass. The last thing Greene needs is to pursue further online fame in her condition. We've seen what that sick need for engagement at all costs has done to Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and others, and it's nothing good.
Overall, this episode should serve as a warning about elevating clearly disturbed individuals just because they are loud. Greene's issues have been apparent for years, and this crash and burn was always inevitable. I hope she gets the help she needs because if she instead leans further into the online echo chamber, things are only going to get worse.
