Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) isn't the dumbest Democrat senator because that honor goes to Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), and it's not a close contest. He is the most unhinged, though. The charitable read of his recent behavior would be that he's trying to pump up his left-wing accolades for a 2028 presidential run. Whatever the reason, it's cringe to watch.

Keep in mind, we're talking about a guy who declared himself to be "Spartacus" during now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing. Like many Democrat politicians these days, he still thinks he's taking part in a middle school theater production. Booker's hubris is as hilarious as it is unearned.
Which brings me to his latest meltdown. Appearing on the floor of the Senate, Booker launched into a dramatic tirade, going so far as to slam his own Democratic Party colleagues over a package of police-related bills. His reason for throwing a fit? The orange man is just that bad.

BOOKER: The Democratic Party needs a wake-up call! I see law firms bending a knee to this president, not caring about the larger principles, that the free speech rights, if you can take on any client, why are you bending the knee?! I see universities that should be bastions of free speech bending at the knee to this president! I see businesses taking late-night talk show hosts off the air because they dare to insult a president! I see people who want mergers suddenly think that they have to pay tribute to this president!
And what are the very people here elected to defend the Constitution of the United States saying?! Oh, well, today, let's look the other way and pass some resources that won't go to Connecticut, that won't go to Illinois, that won't go to New York, that will go to the state he likes! That is complicity with an authoritarian leader who is trashing our Constitution! It's time for Democrats to have a backbone. It's time for us to fight. It's time for us to draw lines!
And when it comes to the safety of my state, being denied these grants, that's why I'm standing here! Don't question my integrity, don't question my motives! I'm standing for Jersey, I'm standing for my police officers, I'm standing for the Constitution, and I'm standing for what's right! And dear God, if you want to come at me that way, you have to take it up with me!
I'm going to stop there because I value my sanity. He just kept going and going, screaming at the top of his lungs, pretending to be a warrior as if he were storming the beaches of Normandy. He wasn't, though, and that's what makes this so pathetic. This package of bills is not controversial, which is why Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) co-sponsored them with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-TX).
Yet, Booker gave that deranged speech as a response to Cortez Masto daring to put partisanship aside for something as nonpartisan as funding law enforcement. For her part, Klobuchar did push back a bit after the New Jersey senator was done beating his chest, accusing Booker of missing markups on the Judiciary Committee.

Is this really the best New Jersey has to offer? A total clown with delusions of grandeur? Never mind that everything he said during that stream of consciousness was complete nonsense. Stephen Colbert was canceled because his show was losing $40 million a year. Would Booker like to pay the difference to keep him on air? The universities in question legitimately violated federal law regarding harassment and discriminatory policies. Would he prefer Jews be beaten up by Islamists? I can only assume the answer is yes. Certainly, President Donald Trump isn't "trashing" the Constitution, given the administration has followed every single court order issued against it to this point.
Booker's behavior is laughably hysterical and dangerously obsessive. He is a completely unserious person who has no business holding public office. It would be nice if Democrat voters in these blue states at least attempted to send qualified people to Washington. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon.
