The Department of Justice dropped an indictment on Monday evening that is going to shake the foundation of the political world. In a stunning move, Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) has been charged with assaulting and impeding ICE agents after she and other Democrats attempted to storm an immigration facility in early May.
U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba, who is overseeing the case, released the following statement on the matter.
🚨 Today my office has charged Congresswoman McIver with violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1) for assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement. pic.twitter.com/TV00uwRtKq

As RedState reported, McIver was seen on video throwing punches at and shoving ICE agents after they tried to prevent her from entering a checkpoint. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested on site for trespassing after a Homeland Security official showed up to deal with the situation. McIver was allowed to leave, though, leaving open the question of whether she'd face consequences.

In the aftermath, she played the victim, claiming she had been mistreated. While the press naturally ate that up, with claims of "fascism" being thrown at the Trump administration, the film didn't lie. The ICE agents on site did their best to calm the situation, and the Democrats in question tried to physically force their way through.
In the days after McIver walked free, I penned a piece on the situation explaining why it was so important for the DOJ to go ahead and charge her.
If a normal American did what McIver did, they'd have been slammed to the ground and handcuffed. It wouldn't even be a question that they'd be charged with a crime, and they'd almost certainly lose their employment as well. Congressional members are supposed to have some sense of decorum and respect. Cussing out rank-and-file ICE agents and throwing punches at them is not those things, to say the least.
House Majority Leader Mike Johnson should quickly bring a resolution to expel McIver from Congress to the floor. Even if it doesn't pass, and it just might, it will at least make the entire Democrat caucus own her ridiculous behavior. Further, the DOJ should file charges. McIver cannot be allowed to get away with what she did simply because of her status. If that happens, it'll be open sense for this kind of dangerous, grandstanding garbage. The time to nip this in the bud is now. Make an example of her, and do it harshly.
I'm glad to see that happened. You can not have congressional members existing above the law. As I said above, any normal person would have been on the ground in handcuffs had they done what McIver did, and had she been allowed to get away with her behavior, it would have signaled open season on immigration authorities.
McIver responded to the charges with her own statement.

I hope she has a good lawyer because she's going to need it, and all the crying in the world from her and her counterparts won't change that.

Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
