Whatever qualms one may have about the Republican Party, the amount of self-destructive idiocy flowing from the Democratic Party continues to be on another level. Ask yourself, if Democrat politicians were actively trying to sabotage their election chances, what would they even be doing differently?
Whether it's boys playing in girls sports under the guise of "transgenderism" or illegal immigration, they continue to seek out the losing side of 80/20 issues. On that point, while President Donald Trump has dipped into negative approval regarding the economy, he continues to garner high marks among Americans regarding border security and deportations.
With that backdrop, you'd think Democrats would focus on trying to help normal Americans get ahead, as laughable as that would be to a conservative like myself. It would at least be a smart political play. Are they doing that? Of course not. Instead, they're spending all their political capital going to bat for a deported Salvadoran man. Don't get me wrong. I love it when Democrats do dumb things, but my word, it's astonishing to watch.
As RedState reported, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) pledged on Tuesday to go to El Salvador to demand the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a suspected MS-13 member.
I've been clear: if President Bukele doesn't want to meet here in D.C., then I intend to go to El Salvador this week to check on Kilmar Abrego Garcia's condition and discuss his release.

Kilmar was illegally ABDUCTED and deported by the Trump Admin. He must be brought home NOW. pic.twitter.com/Hunr6F31J3
For comparison, Van Hollen never showed one-tenth this amount of energy when Rachel Morin, one of his constituents, was murdered by an illegal alien in 2023. Let a Salvadoran be sent back to El Salvador, though, and he's ready to board an international flight and beat down someone's door.
The senator wasn't the only one with that idea, though. As I type this, House Democrats are organizing a congressional delegation to go to the Central American nation. Oh yeah, and you get to pay for it.
SCOOP: Top House Democrats are trying to send a delegation to El Salvador https://t.co/CgOQbDrBZo
— Axios (@axios) April 15, 2025
Two members of House Democratic leadership are trying to send an official congressional delegation to the El Salvadorian prison where the Trump administration is sending deportees, Axios has learned.
Why it matters: Dozens of House Democrats have privately expressed interest in participating in such a trip to protest the Trump administration's deportation policies, sources tell Axios.
What exactly is the end goal here? Kilmar Abrego Garcia is from El Salvador. The United States has no mechanism by which to somehow return him to Maryland to resume his position as an illegal immigrant. Further, El Salvador's president has already said he won't facilitate that. Democrats going down there and shouting for the cameras isn't going to change that.
All of this is just so stupid. Where was this outrage when 13 American service members were murdered due to the Biden administration's rank incompetence and politicization of the Afghanistan withdrawal? Where was this outrage when Laken Riley was murdered in cold blood? But let an illegal immigrant be deported to his country of origin, and they are ready to invade El Salvador over it, and I'm not sure I mean that figuratively.
Scott Jennings recently torched Democrats over this.
🚨NEW: @ScottJenningsKY TORCHES Dems for going to El Salvador to bring back alleged MS-13 member🚨

"Our opposition is apparently currently organizing congressional delegations to go to El Salvador to try to bring illegal aliens back to the United States. It's politically crazy!"… pic.twitter.com/cVqZjcR7NN
JENNINGS: The point they're making, the political point they're making, is quite clear. If you're a violent person, if you've broken our immigration laws. We're here to keep Americans safe, and our opposition is apparently currently organizing congressional delegations to go to El Salvador to try to bring illegal aliens back to the United States.
WOMAN: He hasn't been criminally charged! Scott, he has not been criminally charged!
JENNINGS: So?
WOMAN: What about due process? That is a constitutional right that anyone in this country has...
JENNINGS: If you want to die on this hill, be my guest. It's political malpractice to send Democrat members of Congress to El Salvador to retrieve illegal aliens.
WOMAN: It's his senator from his state. He is from the state of Maryland.
JENNINGS: His senator? He's from El Salvador.
What Jennings is saying goes right over the heads of the rest of the panel, but he's right. Forget about the arguments over "due process" for a moment. Let's even assume that maybe this wasn't handled perfectly. Even still, how does that make this the most important issue of our time to the point where Democrats would spend all their time talking about it while trying to go to El Salvador to bring back an illegal alien? It just makes no sense at all, and as Jennings said, it's political malpractice.
