JD Vance is in Pennsylvania campaigning, and he's dropping dimes on reporters while doing so. 

During an appearance in Philadelphia, the Republican vice presidential nominee was asked about comments he made some years ago where he described liberal women as "childless cat ladies." When a reporter asked about the issue, claiming his words were "offensive to millions of women," Vance was ready and waiting to pounce.

VANCE: Now you asked about the remarks that I made, you said that they are "offensive to millions of women." 

AUDIENCE MEMBER: This cat lady loves you!

VANCE: Thank you, mam. I love you too.

(Applause)

VANCE: What I said is very simple: I think American families are good and government policy should be more pro-family. Now, if the media wants to get offended about a sarcastic remark I made before I even ran for the United States Senate, then the media is entitled to get offended. You know what I'm offended by? I'm offended that normal Americans can't afford groceries. I'm offended that Kamala Harris opened up the American southern border and allowed fentanyl to come into our communities, and I'm offended that she wants to be the people's president but won't even answer tough questions. That's what I'm offended by, and I think that's what most Americans are offended by too.

Hammer, meet nail. Americans are struggling to buy groceries, and all the press can talk about is a joke Vance told three years ago. What happened to speaking truth to power? To fighting for the little guy? I don't think childless left-wing political elites qualify under that description. 

Vance's point, inartfully as he may have stated it for laughs, was that many of the Democrats running the country have no skin in the game. They have no concept of how important families are to the preservation and advancement of society. If Democrats would like to pretend that's controversial, they are welcome to do so. As Vance showed, he's ready to make the case even when pressed by a hostile reporter. The press can keep obsessing over irrelevancy, but normal Americans have actual problems they'd like discussed.

Whatever anyone wants to say about Vance as an electoral addition to the ticket (not being from a swing state, etc.), there is no doubt in my mind that he is going to decimate Democrat vice presidential pick Tim Walz in a debate. The Ohio senator is brilliant in adversarial settings. It doesn't matter how tight of a corner a reporter or moderator tries to paint him in, he always has an answer ready. That's his strength, and I'm very skeptical Walz can match that ability in a debate setting.
