Bill Maher stunned his audience on Friday evening after he decided to touch the third rail of far-left politics. During an extended monologue, the controversial comedian and HBO host launched into a blistering critique of transgender ideology and those who are forcing it on children.

I'll post the entire eight-plus minute segment, but here's the money shot.

MAHER: Contrary to current progressive dogma, children aren't miniature adults wise beyond their years. They're morons. (Laughter). They're gullible morons who will believe anything and just want to please grown-ups, and they don't have any frame of reference, so they normalize whatever is happening. That's why endlessly talking about gender to six-year-olds isn't just inappropriate.

It's what the law would call entrapment, which means enticing people into doing something they wouldn't ordinarily do. For example, after 9/11, there were several cases of overzealous federal agents leading sad losers into terrorist plots like the undercover FBI agent who got seven out-of-work dudes in Liberty City, FL, to sign onto a plot to bomb the Sears Tower in Chicago. Oh please, these guys didn't even have a gun, but when someone said, "Wouldn't it be cool if we taught the man a lesson and blew something up?" They said, "Yeah, that would be kind of cool!"

Entrapment, suggesting someone into something they wouldn't otherwise do. And if you think some of that isn't going on with gender in schools, you're not watching enough TikTok videos.

There's a certain kind of activist these days who wants to take heterosexuality, old school, old fashioned, boring, minding its own business heterosexuality, and lump it in with patriarchy and sexism and racism and tell kids, "Wouldn't it be cool if you were anything but that?" It also seems to be the theme of kind of a lot of kids' books these days. I never used the phrase "gay agenda" because I thought it was mostly nonsense, and it is, mostly, but a director for Disney television animation didn't say after she was hired...

DISNEY EXECUTIVE: The showrunners were super welcoming to, like, my, like, not at all secret gay agenda. Like, I was just, wherever I could, just basically adding queerness. No one would stop me, and no one was trying to stop me.

MAHER: Look, I'm all for adding queerness wherever. I put some in my drink before I came out here today. (Laughter). But maybe we should think about giving kids a break from our culture wars for a minute, or at least until the election is over.

The rest of what Maher had to say can be watched below.

This is where I'm going to break away from the typical fist-pumping by conservatives anytime a left-winger says something we remotely agree with. Maher is right that transgender ideology is essentially entrapping kids into permanently altering their bodies at the behest of activists. He's right that companies like Disney are trying to indoctrinate children. He's correct that teachers use their platforms to push their political culture wars onto their students. He's even right that children's media, including books, are being written and pushed specifically to do just that.

Where Maher goes wrong is that he continues to try to stake out a middle ground where one doesn't exist. He claims the idea of a "gay agenda," which translates to pushing "queerness" (centered on transgenderism) is "mostly" nonsense. That's the wrong approach, and it will lead to more proliferation of what Maher is decrying. You can't just pretend away that this is a massive, targeted effort to corrupt and harm children.

It's not just a few activists behind this push. It's multi-billion-dollar companies. It's entire school systems. It's the highest levels of the federal government within the United States (and elsewhere). I give Maher credit for going this far because he's saying a lot more than most Democrats will, but until he's willing to go further and actually define the terms, he's just telling jokes for laughs while not making a real difference.

With that said, I do think there's a shift happening in the cultural mindset of the country regarding transgenderism and children (and adults for that matter). The laughter in Maher's largely far-left audience is evidence of that. People know this is insane, but they are too afraid to admit it because of societal pressures driven by politics and the press. The sooner people decide to no longer care, the sooner some sanity can be injected back into the world regarding this subject.
