Democrats constantly talk about how much they want to protect “democracy.” It’s become parodic at this point, with every single thing the left doesn’t like being described as a threat to democratic governance. When you take a step back, though, it becomes obvious who the real threat is.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez illustrated that perfectly in an interview that aired Sunday. While on MSNBC, the New York congresswoman spoke to Jen Psaki, which just rounds out the absurdity of the entire scene. The former press secretary for Joe Biden, one of the biggest political hacks in existence, is now cosplaying as an unbiased journalist, but I digress.

The conversation moved to the supposed danger that Tucker Carlson poses to the general public, with Ocasio-Cortez accusing the top-rated host of “incitement to violence.” She also called for government regulations that would remove Carlson and others she disagrees with from the air.

You almost have to respect how blatantly authoritarian that statement is. Many in the Democratic Party at least try to cover up their tyrannical instincts by beating around the bush, but Ocasio-Cortez just comes out and owns her fascism. I suppose that’s easy to do when she knows whatever media figure is sitting across from her will simply lavish her with praise and adoration. Psaki’s performance in that interview was pathetic, and if modern journalistic ethics actually existed, she’d be laughed out of her job.
Here are some follow-up questions Psaki should have asked. What “incitement to violence” is Ocasio-Cortez even talking about? What specific examples can she provide? How are Democrats not responsible for incitement to violence given the last two high-profile mass shooters both were motivated by left-wing rhetoric on transgenderism and guns? Of course, MSNBC’s newest star didn’t even bother to dig deeper because she was too busy slamming her chin into her chest in jubiliant agreement with tyrannical calls to censor her competition by way of government force.
Regardless, Ocasio-Cortez’s threat to use government force to censor her political opponents should scare you. Not because she’s currently got the power to do what she’s saying but because she’ll almost certainly have it at some point in the future. She and those like her are the future of the Democratic Party. Look at how much power they’ve consolidated in such a short period of time. In a decade, these radicals will be leading the Democrat caucuses in Congress and possibly residing in the White House if the American electorate continues to go the way it has lately.
At the end of the day, the modern Democratic Party doesn’t respect free speech in any form. Rather, they see it as a roadblock to their acquisition of total power. Ocasio-Cortez is just shameless enough to say the quiet part out loud.
