Are these the people we want to further empower in November? That’s the question everyone should be asking themselves after seeing how many Democrat politicians have behaved during the coronavirus pandemic. Their authoritarian tendencies have been on full display, with arrests of business owners and threats levied at citizens becoming commonplace.

But despite that, this rant by a San Diego Councilwoman still stands out. In what can only be described a descent into tyranny, she wants to actually start arresting people for not wearing masks and for standing too close together. Further, she calls the coronavirus the “worst virus in the history of medicine.”

Campbell defended her demand using fear claiming, "this is the worst virus in the history of medicine."

I’m constantly amazed that people like this can ever get elected to public office. Even forgetting about her policy demands here, how does someone so inarticulate and doddering garner support? You’d think some basic ability to speak coherently would be required to be a politician, but I guess not.

Regardless, what she’s demanding is actually pretty scary. The idea that the government can simply decree you have no freedom of movement and it be the “law,” up to and including arrest, is probably the most dangerous precedent I’ve ever seen set in my time following politics. The fact that she wants to not only arrest over masks, but also for simply being too close to someone else adds a further layer of insanity.

Of course, we’ve seen states like Michigan and New York have many of the same policies. They’ve just been slightly more diplomatic in who they actually arrest for not following the guidelines. Joe Biden also supports a nationwide mask mandate, so is he really that much different? How’s he going to enforce it without arresting people? These are questions the media will never ask him but that need to be dealt with.

I also want to note the fear porn being spread here. By no measure is the coronavirus the most dangerous virus in the history of medicine. It’s actually not even close. For most of the population, COVID is either less dangerous than the flu or only as dangerous. Yes, coronavirus is uniquely damaging to those 80 and older, but it’s still relatively mild compared to many of the plagues humankind has suffered through over the millennia.

Politicians say this kind of nonsense because they see it as a path to more power. It’s really that simple. They want to control every aspect of your life, from the cradle to the grave. Every ridiculous precedent set during this pandemic will be used in the future to further encroach on freedom and liberty. That’s why it’s so important to push back now, while we still can.
