I’m not sure if Max Rose wants to be a Congressional member or a character on an MTV reality show, but yesterday he got a little humility forced on him. The New York Representative launched into a fiery rant in which he proclaimed Republicans are hypocrites

During floor debate over an amendment related to an infrastructure bill Wednesday, Rose, 33, criticized the proposal. “I’m dumbfounded. You’re aware that this conversation is in public, so I won’t put words in your mouth, but I will use your own words. You say today that you don’t want to consolidate wealth amongst the few,” he said.

“What do you think your tax scam did?” he continued, referencing the Republican-backed tax cut legislation from 2017. “This is about workers. You say you’re worried about deficit spending. Hallelujah! You weren’t worried about deficit spending when it came to endless wars. You weren’t worried about deficit spending when it came to a tax scam.”

“This conversation is in public!” he said. “You don’t get to go back to districts now and say you are on the side of workers. But whose side are you on?”

“So today, out in public, you reveal yourselves to be the hypocrites that you are!” he stated, adding, “We’re going to make sure that people remember this.”

That’s a nice threat I suppose. It’s also nonsense. There was no “tax scam.” There was a tax cut that sent the economy into the stratosphere and gave 82% of Americans more money in their pockets. Somehow Democrats believe that’s a “scam,” mainly because they have no rational argument. If the issue is deficit spending, the wars, which I agree were mishandled, were hardly the tipping point. Entitlement spending has always been the lion’s share of our deficit. That’s true again today, as we’ve added trillions giving out money during the coronavirus.

After Rose’s diatribe, Rep. Virginia Foxx interjected to defend herself, asking that his words be taken down. What followed was an odd back and forth where Rose doubled down, continued yelling, and then eventually apologized and fully backed down.

Oddly enough, Rose never mustered up this fire when Ilhan Omar used anti-Semitic tropes to attack Israel and the Jewish community. Instead, he later had to apologize to his constituents (many of whom are Jewish like him) for not doing enough about the matter.

“As a young congressman, I’ve got to tell you I’m sorry,” the House Democrat from New York told the crowd assembled by the Council of Jewish Organizations of Staten Island on Tuesday night, the Jewish Insider reported.

“You sent me to Congress to take responsibility. You sent me to Congress to have your back … and I failed you. Because I know that Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s comments really caused you all a lot of pain by bringing up anti-Semitic tropes.”

Rose pledged to do more and hold Omar accountable.

“We have got to show her that there is a pathway for her to do the right thing, and we have to be vigilant towards that,” he said. “Believe me, she understands that that’s a possibility and nobody is taking that off the table, but we are not there yet.”…

…“I did say that I accepted her apology. You know why I did that? Because I am an adult. Because my goal was to continue the quiet and non-glamorous actions of coalition-building and trying to protect the people in this room from those comments being made,” he said.

Spoiler: Removing her from her committee was never even on the table and Rose knows it. He talks a big game, but in the end, Omar and the Democrat leadership won the day. Perhaps he could have shown some of that “I am an adult” stuff in his interaction with Foxx instead of continually calling her a hypocrite for pointing out some simple problems with his amendment.

In the end, Foxx forced him to amend his statement and he proclaimed that he didn’t mean any offense. It was quite the scene, but it’s all theater. Of course he meant to cause offense and he’d likely meltdown into a ball of rage if someone accused him of hypocrisy, which he’s no doubt been guilty of many times in his short political career.

At least it’s entertaining I suppose.
