As I mentioned this morning, the #resistance are all hyped up about Robert Mueller is testifying on Wednesday in front of the House Judiciary committee. An honest assessment says this is going to be a big dud, with Mueller not straying outside of the bounds of his report. To do otherwise would break Mueller’s own word about the report being the full measure of his testimony. Any pronouncements of criminality, collusion, or obstruction would also completely undermine the report.

Now, we may have confirmation that Mueller is indeed going to offer absolutely nothing new.

This is the right move.

The DOJ owns that report. Mueller has no right to go before Congress with a bunch of baseless insinuations and claims outside of the job he was contracted to do. This will of course lead to lots of gnashing of teeth, but that doesn’t matter. The Democrats were going to complain about a cover up anyway, just as they’ve been doing for months.

Even more obvious is that this is what Mueller himself wants. He doesn’t want to be grilled or answer a bunch of questions outside the scope of the report. The DOJ is giving him the cover he needs now to basically tell them “I can’t answer that” more times than you can count.

In the end, this is going nowhere. Polling shows most of the country have moved on. No one cares about this topic anymore except Democrats desperate to keep their base in a frenzy. Trump is here to stay until at least January of 2021. Mueller isn’t changing that.
