As our Teri Christoph and others have covered extensively, there’s some weird stuff that goes on in Fairfax County, Virginia. Is there something in the water over there? For starters, you’ve got a governor in Abigail Spanberger who ran as a moderate and then, upon taking office, immediately started down a gun-grabbing, election-meddling extremist path that she’s shown no sign of moderating.
You’ve got a district attorney in Steve Descano who considers the well-being of hard-core criminals to be more important than the welfare of his residents.
The latest nuttery out of the schizophrenic county shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, considering what we’ve seen. As Fox News’ Bill Melugin says, we’ve got an “insane story here.”

An Islamist extremist illegal alien murderer was able to flee back to his home country of Tajikistan after officials in sanctuary Fairfax County, VA allowed him to leave a mental health hospital on unsupervised visits and even helped him obtain a passport. Court records obtained by @realDailyWire reveal that Fairfax County was paying for Abdulloi Toshpulodzoda to stay at an apartment to live in while on leave from his mental health facility. While on a 48-hour pass, he bought a one-way ticket to Tajikistan and fled the country.
Let’s sum it up, shall we? Illegal alien Islamic extremist stabs roommate (described in some reports as also his landlord) to death, is found not guilty by reason of insanity despite admitting his guilt, gets put up in a free apartment, then skips out to the airport where somehow security doesn’t pick him up, and hightails it back to his native Tajikistan.
Does this sound normal to you? I guess it is in Fairfax County.
The insane details:
In 2019, Abdulloi Toshpulodzoda stabbed his roommate Mohammed Hemmatian to death in their Vienna, Virginia home. He was found “covered in blood from head to toe,” and told police “I am guilty,” according to court records. Less than a decade later he’s escaped punishment and is back home in his native Tajikistan.
Court records show that Fairfax County was paying for an apartment for Toshpulodzoda to live in while on leave from his mental health facility. While on the 48-hour pass, and he bought a one-way ticket and fled to his country, which borders Afghanistan in Central Asia.
The worst part? His religious extremism helped him beat the rap. Even though he admitted his crime, he was found not guilty because his attorney said he was “fixated on religious topics and he was illogical and nonsensical.” Those are the exact reasons why he should be in jail; they’re not excuses for slicing someone to death.

Not surprisingly, Descano makes an appearance in the story:
A psychologist named Sahair Monfared was put in charge of evaluating the man “given the intertwining of Islam with Mr. Tospulodozoda’s delusions,” and he recommended that he be granted the not guilty ruling. Another independent psychologist hired by the prosecutor’s office agreed.
In October 2022, the not guilty by reason of insanity judgment was entered “with the concurrence of” the county prosecutor, Democrat Steve Descano, who won office with the financial backing of George Soros.
I’ve always thought the insanity defense was dubious at best; of course you’re freaking insane, you just stabbed someone to death. In Fairfax County, meanwhile, religious extremism is evidently a free pass to commit whatever heinous act you feel like and then jet home.
As Melugin said, that’s what's truly “insane.”
