Can't Make It Up: SCOTUS Justice KBJ Calls for Impartiality… While Appearing on Michelle O's Podcast

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson isn’t exactly known for her neutrality — quite the opposite, actually. 

She’s infamous for using emotional arguments in her decisions and for her long-winded, loaded questions. As our Sister Toldjah reported in 2025, she often gets under the skin of even the other justices. “We will not dwell on Justice Jackson’s argument, which is at odds with more than two centuries worth of precedent, not to mention the Constitution itself,” Barrett wrote about Jackson’s musings regarding a birthright citizen case.

Barrett’s not the only justice who gets frustrated by KBJ’s “reasoning." Clarence Thomas seethed at her in 2023 for her “race-infused world view,” while Samuel Alito deemed one of her dissents “baseless and insulting” and said her rhetoric “lacks restraint.”

All this and more is why it’s somewhat jarring to see her talking about the importance of impartiality on a podcast hosted by none other than that Democrat deity, former First Lady Michelle Obama. 

How clueless is KBJ? How could she not know that this makes her look highly partisan and biased?

During her appearance on Mrs. Obama and her brother’s podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, which debuted Wednesday but was recorded in May, some of her comments were laugh-out-loud funny as they were so completely out of touch with the reality that we see from her in virtually every decision.

During an appearance of more than an hour on the podcast, Jackson, a Biden appointee to the Supreme Court, stressed the importance of being unbiased, saying, "You really have to be focused on that."

"There are lots of limits on what judges can do, and I try to be very, very mindful and scrupulous with respect to that because, as you say, our obligation is to be unbiased in our approach," said Jackson.

"And, so, you have to then navigate all the sources that could make for an appearance of partiality, which you want to avoid."

Even the title of the episode is insulting: “Move Through the Hard Times With Ketanji Brown Jackson.” It makes it sound like KBJ is a down-on-her-luck lady living on the margins, not someone who was awarded a seat on the highest court in the land.

The internet was not kind to Biden’s pick, whom the former explicitly said was going to be chosen according to her race and gender:

“The most public, loud-mouthed, self-assured judge in the history of the United States wants to lecture us about the dignity of the courts 😂,” wrote Not the Bee’s Harris Rigby. And:

Appearing on a lovefest podcast with one of the most polarizing and partisan women in the nation and claiming you're impartial. Does that sound like sound decision-making that we should respect? (Answer: no.)
