Chilling: SCOTUS Justice Barrett Tells Congress Why She Has to Explain a Bulletproof Vest to Her Child

Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan are appearing before Congress Tuesday to testify about the increasing threats they face and the need for an increase in the security budget. It’s the first time since 2019 that members of the High Court have appeared before lawmakers to speak on their annual budget request.

They appeared first for the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government and will testify later Tuesday for the Senate Appropriations Committee. They are requesting an increase of more than $14 million for fiscal 2027 for security for the nine justices, and the reasons why are chilling.

The 2022 assassination attempt against Justice Brett Kavanaugh made headlines, but there are a whole lot more threats out there that don’t make the evening news, Barrett told lawmakers. The statistics might “sound abstract,” she explained, “but being on the receiving end of them is not.”

This is the kind of deranged activity she’s had to live with:

LEFITSTS ARE EVIL

"6 weeks ago, I was the victim of a SWATTING incident. My teenage son opened the door and saw in our street full of police cars who responded to a false report of gun shots in my home...Supreme Court police explained that it was a false alarm, the police did not actually attempt to enter our home."

"Many of us including me have received threatening anonymous deliveries to harass and intimidate us."

She's getting deliveries in the name of a deceased judge's son who was killed.

"The threat level is really high."

Imagine having to explain a bulletproof vest to your kid. Sick stuff.

We need more funds to keep us safe in these insane times, the justices told lawmakers:

The Supreme Court is asking Congress to appropriate $228.4 million for fiscal 2027, a nearly 10% increase since the $207.8 million appropriated for 2026. The increase reflects higher spending on security-related measures.

According to data from the U.S. Marshals Service, since the beginning of 2026, there have been a total of 512 investigations of threats to federal judges. That compares to 807 investigations of threats for all of 2025.

It’s sad that we’re dealing with such psychos out there, but the violent rhetoric — much of it from the Left, which idolizes alleged assassin Luigi Mangione and laughs at Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk’s ruthless murder (while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer [D-NY] openly threatens SCOTUS jurists over decisions he doesn’t like) — it’s not a surprise.

Pray for Barrett and her family, even when you don’t like a specific decision she makes.
