The New York Times came out with a mournful report Thursday, saying that an immigration slowdown has “hit” Every Metro Area in the U.S. The sad tone of the article makes it clear that they view this as a terrible thing, but the reality is that after former President Joe Biden let in tens of millions of illegal aliens, cities were overwhelmed, we had no idea who was coming in, and it was chaos.
While legal immigration has always been a foundation of our democracy, uncontrolled mayhem does not have to be the order of the day, despite what the Democrats will tell you.
We voted for this:
Every metro area in the United States, in fact, experienced lower immigration rates during the year leading up to July 2025 compared with the previous year, according to new estimates released on Thursday by the Census Bureau.
In about 75 percent of all counties, overall population growth — including immigration, domestic migration, births and deaths — either slowed or turned negative. Only 25 percent grew faster.
And large urban counties and border counties, which had experienced a surge in new arrivals in recent years, were among the hardest-hit parts of the country.

What the Times downplays is that we’re not actually losing population, it’s just that we’re expanding at a slower rate than we did under Ole Joe’s “Let Them All In” policies:
The nation’s overall population still increased last year by 1.8 million people, but the combination of low birthrates and dramatically slowing immigration led to one of the slowest growth rates in U.S. history.
The U.S. census numbers are a measure of the country’s demographic health, and take account of births and deaths as well as immigration, emigration and deportation. The country needs a population of young workers and taxpayers large enough to finance infrastructure like schools, hospitals and health care for older residents. Growth that is too rapid can also present problems, straining resources and pushing up the cost of housing.
Where did we see the sharpest drops? Why, at the border, of course:
The sharpest declines in population growth rates in 2025 were seen in metropolitan areas along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the Census Bureau. Three places saw the most significant drops: Laredo, Texas, where the growth rate fell from 3.2% in 2024 to 0.2% in 2025; Yuma, Arizona, where it fell from 3.3% to 1.4%; and El Centro, California, where it fell from 1.2% to -0.7%.
Their shifting populations were largely due to lower levels of immigration, the bureau said. All three had experienced growth in 2024 because of an influx of thousands of immigrants.
We need immigrants to thrive as a country, and it is true, as the report notes, that birth rates are too low to sustain our success. This is a problem for many developed countries. The answer, however, is not to open our gates for any and all comers with no oversight, all at the same time.
If our growth rate has temporarily slowed for the moment, and the administration is replacing lawlessness with order, then I have no problem with that.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
