Mr. 1st Amendment: Mamdani Claims He Fêted Hamas Sympathizer Because Suddenly Free Speech Is Important

Mahmoud Khalil has graced the pages of RedState many a time. His claim to fame comes from his stint as the face of the pro-Palestinian — let’s just call it what it is, pro-Hamas — movement here in the United States after their savage October 7, 2023, attack against Israel, which left over 1,200 Israelis dead and hundreds more taken hostage.

He is noted in our mainstream press as the “lead negotiator” during the unrest at New York City's Columbia University. This is another sign of the decline of our once vaunted academic institutions: there’s nothing to "negotiate" — get the hell off campus, and if we see you again, we’ll sic the authorities on you.

Oct. 7 was as barbaric and inhuman an assault as you will ever see, but that didn’t matter to Khalil. As a Columbia University graduate student, he organized (violent) protests against Israel and accused them of genocide for daring to fight back against the murderers who slaughtered their people. He was lionized by our corrupt media, but rightfully despised by conservatives and those who love America and support the Jewish state in its quest for existential survival.

Our Ben Smith reported on how NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani had no compunction hosting the controversial figure at Gracie Mansion on Sunday, and as Smith reported, he did “did not treat the moment as a quiet religious gathering or a private meeting between acquaintances. He turned the dinner into a political statement and broadcast it publicly.”

But was the democrat socialist mayor honoring extremism and wanton violence? No, according to him, he was just standing up for the American Constitution and its First Amendment.

What an American patriot:

Mayor Zohran Mamdani defended hosting divisive anti-Israel activist Mahmoud Khalil at Gracie Mansion this week – claiming he was standing up for free speech rights even as pro-Israel advocates slammed the invite.

“As the mayor of New York City, I believe it is my responsibility to fight for the safety and for the rights of each and every New Yorker,” Mamdani said Thursday when asked about the controversial get-together at the mayoral residence.

“The only charge that was levied against him [Khalil] was the exercising of his First Amendment rights,” Hizzoner insisted during an unrelated press conference in The Bronx.

“And I have long maintained that he and any New Yorker should be able to exercise their First Amendment rights in this city without fear of the kind of punishment that was inflicted upon him,” he said.

Despite the high-minded rhetoric, however, Mamdani only cares about the safety of “each and every New Yorker” when it suits him:

Shocker: NYC Mayor Mamdani Honored by Extremist Who Demanded Hamas Bomb Israel

We here at RedState knew how horrible and anti-American Mr. Mamdani was during his campaign, and we sounded the alarm in numerous articles. However, he’s turned out to be just as bad — or perhaps even much worse — than we imagined. I can’t think of a more anti-American, radical, terrorist-supporting, outright Marxist who has been elected to this high an office in my lifetime.

I can’t escape the feeling: at this point, he’s simply mocking us.

Editor’s Note: New York City is now facing the consequences of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s socialist takeover.
