The Great Leftist Pivot to the Center Is Upon Us — and It's All a Lie

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

It’s a timeless quote, and for good reason: if you fall for the same scam twice, the second time is on you. Obviously, I wasn’t fooled by Joe Biden and his claims to be moderate as he ran for the presidency in 2020, but even so, I admit to being taken aback by just how hard the left turn he took upon taking office turned out to be.

Many voters were fooled, of course, and we’re still paying the price for that today.

Ole Joe ran as a pragmatist but governed as an extremist. Gender and racial ideology wars were the name of the Biden regime game, while opening up the border to all and sundry, handing out billions in green energy boondoggles, and trying to “get Trump” at any cost became their obsession.

Inflation exploded along with the illegal immigrant influx, crime and quality of life became an afterthought, and earned merit became a negative, not a positive, as the mentally declining commander in chief flashed his Joker’s grin as he openly hired people to top jobs based solely on their gender and skin color. (I’m looking at you, Kamala Harris and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.)

If anything, the Democrats have become even more extreme since those sad old days, and have waged a disgusting propaganda war against our federal law enforcement agencies while promoting political violence at every opportunity.

All of a sudden, however, they smell the midterms – and they’re pivoting like Olympic figure skaters attempting quadruple lutzes. It started slowly back in March of 2025, when extremist California Gov. Gavin Newsom admitted on a podcast that allowing males to compete against girls and women in competitive sports was “deeply unfair.” It was an obvious play to the average American voter, who values sensibility — but the elaborately coiffed guv has done nothing since to stop the practice, and in fact, a boy just cleaned up in track and field at the California Winter Championships

That will become a theme of this article.

It gets even more ludicrous, however. The recently concluded Munich Security Conference in Germany was a highlight reel of high-level duplicitous Democrats trying to lie their way into the hearts of American voters. Luminaries such as former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tried to distance themselves from the failures of progressive policies, even though they championed those policies every step of the way — and would once again endorse them wholeheartedly should the Dems take Congress in November.

First, as RedState’s Nick Arama reported, Hillary tried to massage the message on illegal aliens, even as she watched uncritically for years as Biden let in tens of millions with his “the door’s wide open, come on in!” policies.

JENNY COME LATELY: Hillary Clinton Makes an Incredible Admission About Illegal Immigration at Munich Security Conference

Here she tries to pretend she would have done things differently (which no one believes):

But leave it to former President Barack Obama, who took Joe off political life support and unleashed him upon America by picking him as his VIP, to try to gaslight the public. Sure, the homeless epidemic caused by progressives is an “atrocity.”

The answer to the problem, of course, is to vote in more Democrats. The (purposeful) disconnect is almost hard to fathom:

Here’s Barack with his Captain Obvious moment. Progressive leadership has utterly failed California, and it will fail you, but vote for us anyway:

There are other obvious examples of prominent Democrats trying to appear reasonable, at the Munich conference and elsewhere, but these were two of the more prominent recent efforts by the extremists to deceive about their record and their real aims.

What they’re attempting to do is give voters who consider themselves Democrats but are troubled by the disastrous effects of their policies permission to vote for them again.

When those voters are faced with the questions from relatives and observers about the obvious efforts by the elitist class and the progressives to undermine the American success story, they can now say, “No, Barack understands the homeless epidemic, and he’ll do something about it.” “Hillary sees that unfettered illegal immigration is an issue, and I’m sure she won’t stand for it anymore — she said so!”

It’s all a lie — if given power, Democrats will quickly drop such moderate talk and revert right back into Biden-esque, extremist anti-American policies faster than Joey can order a chocolate chip ice cream cone.

If you don’t believe me, just check out Virginia’s new governor, Abigail Spanberger, who, upon election, immediately turned into the female version of democrat socialist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

It’s pathetic watching them pretend they’re something they’re not, or that they didn’t bring so much of the misery — especially in our once-wonderful big cities. Just because it’s pathetic, however, doesn’t mean it’s not effective. It's nothing but a fake, cynical pivot, and outlets like RedState must keep calling it out every step of the way.

We will do just that.
