Newsom Begs the Courts to Intervene in His Spat With Trump Over LA Riots, Files Emergency Motion

Poor Grieving Gavin.

California Governor Newsom is watching his presidential ambitions turn to smoke like the Waymo cars that were torched Sunday during the ongoing riots in Los Angeles as protesters rage over the ICE raids ordered by the Trump administration.

Once California officials showed clearly that they were not interested or not capable of quelling the violence, President Trump ordered in the National Guard and even the U.S. Marines. As I noted earlier, unrest continued Monday but was markedly less violent than over the weekend. We’ll see what happens Tuesday night, but so far, the president’s strategy seems to be working.

Newsom has gnashed his teeth, unleashed a volley of furious tweets, and grimaced for the cameras over the fact that Trump upstaged him and showed what actual leadership is like, but so far he hasn’t been able to get the commander-in-chief to back down and pull the troops. He’s therefore doing what all Democrats are doing these days, turning to the courts in the hope that an activist judge will jump and save the day. Sadly, we’ve seen that occurring all too often in Trump’s second term in office.

Newsom announced Tuesday afternoon that he’s filed an emergency motion:

He also posted a video where he frankly looks strained as he claims that Trump doesn’t care about Californians:

I can only answer that with, I sure feel a lot safer around here with Trump in charge than with you, Newsom. And after what you have done to this state with your sky-high taxes, over-regulation, the homelessness and crime explosion, your failure to protect girls who play sports, your war on parental values, it certainly doesn't seem like you care too much about Californians yourself.

The governor wants an answer from the court immediately:

Newsom asked for an emergency ruling by 1 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, a lightning-fast timeline.

“Federal antagonization, through the presence of soldiers in the streets, has already caused real and irreparable damage to the City of Los Angeles, the people who live there, and the State of California. They must be stopped, immediately,” the motion states.

The case was assigned to U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer, an appointee of former President Clinton who serves in San Francisco. He is also the brother of retired Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen way too many activist judges jumping in to stop the president’s priorities. We’ll keep you updated on what happens here.

Editor's Note: President Trump isn't going to allow lawlessness to reign in America. We will not have a repeat of 2020's "Summer of Love."
