If you can believe it, some think that Gavin Newsom could be a serious contender for the presidency in '28. The California governor has been an epic disaster for the state as he has gone all-in on woke politics, spent billions on a bullet train to nowhere, watched as crime soared in the big cities while homelessness exploded… the list goes on and on.

He appears to be trying to slide slightly more toward the center in recent months, using his cringeworthy podcast to try to appear as a common-sense moderate. The only problem? He has a long record of failure as a left-wing extremist, and he won’t be able to escape that.

Now he can add this to his resume: the governor signed a $2.8 billion bailout Monday to close a massive deficit in California's Medicaid program. Now why would there be a deficit, you might ask. Ah, that would be because Governor Genius decided that the state should cover healthcare for illegal aliens:

The move, confirmed by Newsom's office to Fox News Digital Monday afternoon, comes after the Democratic governor asked lawmakers last month for a $3.4 billion loan from the state's general fund to cover some $6.2 billion in outstanding costs for Medi-Cal, one of the state's primary healthcare programs that takes both federal and state taxpayer dollars. The additional funds will help keep the program running through June for some 15 million Californians, including noncitizens.

But Republicans have been critical of the loan, arguing the current Medicaid program isn't sustainable with illegal immigrants included in the coverage.

Approximately 1.6 million illegals are enrolled in Medi-Cal out of a total of 15 million. Although the move to allow them to sign up was projected to cost $6 billion, it far exceeded that. Who could have guessed?

Another Failure: Gavin Newsom's Bankrupted Medi-Cal After Expanding Coverage to Illegal Aliens

Republicans in the state (yes, there are plenty—just not quite enough) are appalled by the mismanagement. State Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones:

Democrats have made their choice: legal residents come second. We must stop new enrollments of illegal immigrants and rein in this unsustainable program before it collapses entirely.

This level of incompetence and mistaken priorities is bad for California, but it may end up being good for America. The more voters see this guy fail, the more they’ll realize they can never allow him to serve in higher office and do to the U.S. what he did to the Golden State.

As the homelessness crisis continues unabated, crime is still just an accepted part of life, the state has to borrow billions just to pay for its progressive madness, and taxes continue to rise, Newsom knows what his priorities are: appearing on his podcast and begging for Canadians to come visit.
