A suspected illegal immigrant from Venezuela tried his luck at robbing a bank in Ohio this week, although the heist went awry after he was unable to communicate what he wanted.

Fox 8 reports that police arrested 20-year-old Yeixon Brito-Gonzalez and suspect that he is in the country illegally. Customs and Border Patrol have put a hold on him.

“We have no way to tell if he is here legally or not,” said Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver. “But he has no proof of identification.”

The failed heist took place on April 6th at around 11:30 a.m., when bank clerks called police to report a man entering the facility and trying to get behind the counters.

Security footage of the incident shows the man holding up his phone as he tried to communicate his demands, which included taking money out of the tills and placing it in a bag. During this time, police arrived at the scene and successfully detained him while also explaining his rights in Spanish.

“I have been in law enforcement for over 20 years and this is the first time I encountered something like this, someone using a translator app to try and rob a bank,” Oliver continued. “First time our officers have dealt with it too."

According to the law enforcement report, the suspect claimed he had recently lost his job and needed cash. However, he denied attempting to rob the bank, instead insisting that he was merely asking them to put money in his bag. He is now facing charges of attempted robbery, attempted theft, and criminal trespassing.

The incident adds further fuel to the fire regarding concerns about a rise in criminality caused by individuals who have entered the country illegally.

Earlier this month, Richard K. Jones, another Ohio Sherriff representing Butler County, broke down how Joe Biden and the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas were directly worsening the situation by maintaining an open border through which previously convicted criminals can pass.

"This is killing us and it's destroying our country," Jones explained. "Everybody. It's affecting all of us. In Butler County times the 3300 counties in the United States. These people aren't doing anything [pointing to a picture of Biden and Mayorkas]. And they're causing it."

Jones also cited the case of Fermin Garcia-Gutierrez, an illegal immigrant recently charged with murder who had been deported and re-entered the country a staggering seven times. On a more positive note, Garcia-Gutierrez is now facing up to 30 years behind bars or even the death penalty.
