When Americans invented the automobile, they also invented all that goes with it. Rumble seats back in the day, muscle cars, and best of all, road trips. All of us remember family vacations as kids when we piled into the car off to somewhere USA. Like everything else, road trips have also evolved over the years; even the places we make sure to stop at for gas, a restroom break, or a bag of chips and a drink have evolved. And the mother of all those road trip stops is unquestionably Buc-ee's.

But Buc-ee's is far more than the "wall of jerky" and brisket sandwiches. Recently, a post on social media revealed employee pay rates, including managers, who can earn as much as $275,000 without a college degree.
Maybe being the boss isn't your speed? Cashiers, warehouse workers, maintenance workers, and grocery stockers start at $20 an hour. Even the restroom crew starts at that rate. Food service managers can earn between $150,000 and $200,000. And managers, $200,000 to $275,000.

Eric Bowman is the Editor-in-Chief of TravelPulse, and said what we all already know in the interview with Fox News Digital linked above:
"Buc-ee's appeal is largely due to its large size. People, especially those who love a good road trip, have long loved roadside attractions. That's what Buc-ee's has become. Add in a cute mascot and clever marketing... and the word spreads fast that it's a place you have to see at least once."
The salary list immediately sparked a debate on social media. One person said, "There are well-paying jobs available if you look for them. They may not be glamorous, they may not be what you dreamed of... but they are there." Others said that Buc-ee's six-figure salaries made a persuasive argument for young people to consider before taking out thousands of dollars in student debt for college degrees. Still another person pointed out that the salaries are commensurate with a demanding workload that a place like Buc-ee's requires. "But you are going to have to work. No checking social media while you're working. No texting your friends while working."
Republican Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05), who's the party's nominee for Arizona governor in the midterms, even chimed in about the place on Saturday:

But maybe the best comment about the salaries at Buc-ee's was this: "It's the only gas station I go to where I fill my tank for under $50, but still find a way to spend another $100."

Buc-ee's really is a destination all by itself, especially for sightseeing RedState journalists. In March, while in Texas attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), my colleagues, Jennifer Oliver O'Connell, Ward Clark and his wife Dawn, and I found the nearest Buc-ee's in a Dallas suburb, grabbed an Uber, and headed out. Our purchases included goodies for grandkids, of course, brisket sandwiches, drinks, and snacks. We barely made it over to the non-food section. I found lots of great kitchen gadgets and lots of other fun stuff, but sadly, suitcases only provide a limited amount of space.
The best part of our trip to Buc-ee's was getting to hang out with coworkers who are so much more than that; they are dear friends, the kind you can go to Buc-ee's with and not be ashamed to load up on junk food. Oh, and take a picture with the beaver mascot himself, Buc-ee.
You might not want to make Buc-ee's a lifelong career. But if you are young, what a way to begin amassing a pretty decent nest egg.
