In 2016, at the World Economic Forum, Danish politician Ida Auken made a prediction about life in 2030. She made the now-infamous statement, “You’ll own nothing. And you’ll be happy..." Apparently, Ida Auken has never been to the island "paradise" of Cuba. The people of Cuba own nothing, and they are far from happy. In fact, Cubans are so unhappy that the Cuban government recently admitted to some grim statistics.

A recent bleak admission from the Castro regime confirmed the ongoing population collapse in Cuba continued unabated in 2025, with a perfect storm of record-low birth rates and a quarter of a million Cubans fleeing the island. Also thrown into the mix is the fact that Cuba's population is the oldest in Latin America and the Caribbean, with 26 percent of the population aged 60 or older. That affects not only the birth rate, but also means that Cuba has lost 1.25 million working-age people.
The new report, released by Cuba's National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), showed 9,434,593 citizens remaining in Cuba at the end of 2025. That is down 313,414 from the 9.7 million reported in 2024. In 2017, Cuba showed a population of 11.2 million, meaning that 16 percent of its population has been lost in that time. However, independent studies show that number could be as high as 24 percent. The number of people leaving the country (translated) has been consistent over the last few years, with 245,264 leaving in 2025, 307,000 in 2024, 330,000 in 2023, and 500,000 in 2022. The majority of those who leave are between the ages of 20 and 40, and leave from the capital city of Havana.
ONEI has measured Cuba's natural growth rate at minus 7.1 per 1,000 residents. That means Cuba is losing population before accounting for migration. But Cuba's biggest problem is the rapidly dwindling birthrate. There were just 68,064 documented births in 2025, but 136,214 deaths. And not surprisingly, the child mortality rate was around 9.9 per 1,000 births. Add to that a 1.29 children per woman fertility rate for the second year in a row, the lowest since 1958. But wait, we have been told by the left that Cuban healthcare is the best.

With the rise in popularity of Democratic Socialism in the U.S., aren't American Democratic Socialists even the least bit curious about why anyone would flee a communist utopia like Cuba? Of course not. Because they know Democratic Socialism, communism, or whatever you want to call it, only benefits those at the top. It's taken almost 70 years, but Cuba is on the verge of total collapse. What will happen once that collapse is complete is unknown right now. What will the excuse for that collapse be from the Democratic Socialists?
There will probably just be silence. Democratic Socialists don't like to talk about Cuba, because it is a living example of the end result of what they want for America.
