The Time for Being Nice Has Passed

Ya' know, I consider myself a pretty average American. My parents and in-laws are all gone now, so my family consists of my husband, my brother, and a fairly rambunctious 7-year-old Lab/Beagle mix named Paulina. I have a job I adore, a house to maintain, and bills to pay. But I wonder if many other Americans are waking up the same way I did this morning. I feel less free and way more frightened than I did yesterday. Something very significant happened in this country yesterday. A shift occurred that I don't know will ever be righted.

Yesterday, May 30, 2024, for the first time, an American political party, convicted their chief political opponent, a former President of the United States, for what seems to be some pretty elusive crimes, in an American court of law. Credible legal talking heads have been all over TV the last few weeks in search of those crimes, but apparently, you really didn't need one. We can rehash all of the particulars of the case and all of the players in it. My RedState colleagues have done an excellent job of covering all of those things. But what happened yesterday goes so far beyond Donald Trump and this trial. it goes to the very heart of what is taking place in this country.

We can safely assume that the Democrat Party's goal is not just to reelect a senile, incompetent man to the White House so that they can keep a bony-fingered grip on power, the ultimate goal is one-party rule in America. At this point, there can be no doubt about that. But I am comforted that it seems as though the American people are not interested in one-party rule. Since the verdict, the Trump campaign raised a staggering record-breaking $34.8 million, crashing the website in the first few minutes after the verdict was read. I am also reassured by the fact that everywhere I look on social media, Trump supporters are more motivated than ever to put Donald Trump back in the White House.

But I also see, at least I think I do, that perhaps more people than I realize see what I see. We see a nation in serious trouble. America is supposed to be that shining city on a hill that Ronald Reagan assured us it was, where everyone is treated equally and everyone has the same shot at the American Dream and success if they are willing to work hard. That's not what those in the Democrat Party, who want to rule us, want. They want to be able to convict and imprison their political opponents. They want to censor those who speak out against them. They want to take out of the hands of the American people the right to elect who they think is the best man or woman for the job because they might not like the outcome. That and the fact that they think the American people are too stupid to handle such a choice.

My colleague Nick Arama asked the question, "Did They Awaken the Sleeping Giant?" I say the answer to that is a resounding "YES." I will only speak for myself here, but I hope that I am speaking for millions of other Americans who are fed up with the left, liberals, and the Democrat Party. I have said before and I will say it again: Republicans, STOP BEING NICE. The time has come. Stop putting up with them, stop being tolerant of them and their views, and stop tip-toeing around them. As we enter this new era of American politics, the words of another former President come to mind. After 9/11, George W. Bush told the nation, "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." It must be the new mindset of conservatives.

The fact that Donald Trump has gone up six points in his approval rating, with 22 percent saying they have a more favorable view of him since the verdict, has also helped my comfort level a bit. Maybe all those other average Americans who woke up feeling the same way I did let their early morning feelings be known. We all know for certain now, that if it can happen to Donald Trump, it can happen to us.
