A new Axios Vibes survey by the Harris Poll shows that overall, 51 percent of the general public, including 42 percent of Democrats, say they would support mass deportation. When broken down by party affiliation, the numbers are what you might expect. Republicans would support mass deportation by an overwhelming 68 percent, Democrats at 42 percent, and independents slightly higher at 46 percent. When the numbers are broken down generationally, again, not too surprising. Older Americans of the baby boomer generation supported mass deportation at 60 percent, those who said they were Gen X at 53 percent, Millennials at 48 percent, and Gen Z at just 35 percent. 

But when the survey was broken down by ethnicity, there was an interesting hiccup. White Americans favored mass deportation by 56 percent, Hispanics by 45 percent, and black Americans by 40 percent. The relatively low support for any mass deportation program by blacks shows a bit of a contradiction. In places like Chicago, black residents are showing up to city council meetings, furious that Mayor Brandon Johnson and the city council approved $70 million of taxpayer dollars to assist the thousands of illegal immigrants that have flooded that sanctuary city. Another curious twist on the survey was that 46 percent of Republicans say they would end birthright citizenship, which is guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, and even 30 percent of Democrats say they would end birthright citizenship as well.

The survey also asked what the respondents' biggest concerns were over illegal immigration. They cited many issues like crime and national security that are stand-alone issues in this election cycle, but illegal immigration is compounding their severity. Among respondents' answers, 21 percent said they thought illegal immigration increased crime rates, drugs, and violence, 18 percent cited additional costs to taxpayers, and 17 percent said the increased risk of terrorism and national security.

While a Cato Institute report from February of this year argued that illegal immigrants had a lower homicide conviction rate, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported 60 homicides in fiscal year (FY) 2021 and 62 the following fiscal year. There were 29 homicides by illegal immigrants in FY 2023, and so far in FY 24, there have been 14. But it is the high-profile cases like nursing student Laken Riley in Georgia and Travis Wolfe in Missouri that have voters fed up with illegal immigration. Add to that the large number of illegal immigrants coming from places like China and terrorist-supporting countries like Iran. In fiscal year 2023 alone, CBP reported 169 encounters with individuals potentially on the terror watch list.  

These are just a few of the reasons why Joe Biden's approval rating on immigration sits at just 32.2 percent. In a recent interview with Univision, Biden stated he was looking at issuing an executive order on the border by the end of April. But Americans may have their minds made up about Joe Biden's border and support for Donald Trump's plans to begin mass deportations if he wins reelection in 2024. 

Term limits, paper ballots and mass deportation is the way.
