Biden Admin. Order of Migrants' 'Safe Release' Spells Twofer, Compounding Illegal Immigration and Homelessness

As Title 42 comes to an end this week, Americans all over the nation, with the apparent exception of the Biden administration, are holding their breath in anticipation of what will amount to a full-scale invasion of illegal immigrants across the U.S. southern border. But the issues that have become the norm with the mass migration that began with Joe Biden’s presidency, will now be compounded to a point where it is unclear as to what can be done about them. On Tuesday, top border officials in the Biden administration ordered all Border Patrol sectors to begin what they call “safe mass releases” of illegals, to essentially the streets of America’s cities if non-governmental organizations (NGOs) do not have the capacity or resources to assist them.

In case you are asking if this is what you think it is, the answer is yes, it is. It means that illegal immigrants will be released at places like bus stops, gas stations, and supermarkets initially in cities and towns all along the southern border because most Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities are way over capacity. But do the math, and it is certain that as those border cities and towns fill up with illegal immigrants, so too will cities and towns all over the United States be overrun.

DHS recently announced $332 million in new funding to assist NGOs and local governments with illegal immigrants. But while numerous NGOs all over the country have stepped up to provide humanitarian support for the millions who have already streamed across the border, more money going to those organizations is not much help when they only have so much space. Even before the expiration of Title 42, in El Paso Texas alone, thousands of illegal immigrants are camped out on city streets, making for dangerous circumstances for illegals and citizens alike. And there does not seem to be a clear plan coming from the White House.

The end of Title 42 will add to an already unsustainable illegal immigration crisis. Now, with nowhere to go, thousands, perhaps millions of illegals, will exacerbate the homelessness crisis in America as well, as they head north to other cities. Of the top ten American cities with the largest homeless populations, five of them are near the southern border. New York City, has long prided itself on being a sanctuary city, well maybe not so much anymore. Mayor Eric Adams appeared to have cried “uncle,” and announced that the city’s resources were strained and the city will be relocating illegal immigrants to other places around the country. The same is happening in the sanctuary city of Chicago, where outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced last week that:

We are completely tapped out. We have no more space, no more resources, and frankly, we are already in a surge. We’ve been seeing over the last week two to three weeks, 200-plus people coming to Chicago every single day.

Lightfoot also said that the city is at capacity and is struggling to provide shelter for those who are already there. More than likely, even cities that are not self-proclaimed sanctuary cities will eventually be overwhelmed with illegal immigrants, who will almost certainly add to the homeless population as the steady stream at the border continues with seemingly no let-up. The inevitable homeless encampments that will spring up in big cities will also lead to higher crime rates, already a problem in places like New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas continually insists that the American people believe him when he says the border is not open and is secure, rather than what they actually see at the border. But he may have outdone himself in the whopper department recently when a reporter asked him, “Can you explain why you’ve seen this big surge [of illegals] in the last couple of weeks?” Mayorkas’ answer: “It’s very difficult to identify the cause.” We have to be beginning to wonder, is the “fundamental transformation” of America that Barack Obama gleefully told us would happen, about to be complete?
