Stop Stalling: DOJ Suing 4 Blue States That Refuse to Fork Over SNAP Data to Remove Fraudsters

This absolutely needs to stop. Blue state governors like Tim Walz of Minnesota and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and their underlings, have been refusing to fork over vital SNAP data, while thumbing their noses at federal agencies working to weed out the fraudsters from a program meant to aid the most needy Americans - those who cannot afford food.

As of Friday night, the Justice Department (DOJ) says. that's ending now.

 The full post reads:

Today @DOJCivil and @DOJFraudDiv sued four states-Minnesota, Kentucky, Michigan, and Pennsylvania-for refusing to provide SNAP eligibility data to @USDA.

The @TheJusticeDept is dedicated to combatting waste, fraud, and abuse in federal benefits programs, and ensuring that American taxpayers are not footing the bill for benefits that recipients are not entitled to under federal law.

In a press release, they explained that showing a measure of patience has not yielded results:

When USDA requested this data last year, these states and several others refused to comply.  Twenty-eight other jurisdictions, however, promptly provided their data.  Data received from the compliant 28 states indicate there are billions of dollars per year in SNAP funds going to overpayments and fraud.

Faced with this evidence, USDA again requested SNAP applicant data from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Minnesota in May.  Yet again, these states refused to comply.  The states’ ongoing noncompliance creates the likelihood of ongoing, material waste, fraud, and abuse going undetected.  Such reckless disregard for Federal law and the public fisc cannot continue.

The DOJ linked to a May 2026 USDA report on the massive amount of fraud they have already uncovered in the states that have worked with the agency.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement:

"The American people deserve a government that is transparent about how it spends their hard-earned tax dollars. These four states are thwarting USDA’s efforts to ensure that the billions of dollars in SNAP benefits they distribute every year are not lost to fraud. It’s unacceptable, suspicious, and it will not stand under this Administration.”

The suit was started at the request of USDA Sec. Brooke Rollins, who said these four states have obstinantely refused to work with her agency, in defiance of federal law, for "nearly 365 days":

"For nearly 365 days, several States have shamelessly defied federal law and withheld data to which the U.S. Department of Agriculture is entitled...If a State misguidedly stands between the federal government and the information needed to protect the generosity of the American taxpayer, the Trump Administration will take them to court.”

The U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, Leah Foley, appeared on Fox News' The Ingraham Angle show with guet host Brian Kilmeade on Friday, and filled in the details on the major pushback the USDA has been getting from these state officials:

Foley shared that what's happening to defraud the American people's pocketbook in MN, KY, VA, and PA is similar to how things are happening in her state, where anyone with a SNAP card can use it like a magic key to open access to government healthcare and housing, and "the benifits flow." Most maddening was the answer to Kilmeade's question, on what the states' verification process looked like.

The states won't even tell the Trump USDA the answer to that simple question, she said:

Literally, we have asked the state to provide us with the names of the people who are on the rolls now...The federal government gives the state billions of dollars to distribute. We ask them, USDA asks them, for the list of names of the recipients, and they refuse to turn them over. And the USDA wants the names and identifiers, so they can confirm whether these people are actually true identities or are also receiving these payouts in other states.

This is exactly what needs to happen. Keep shining a light in the darkened corners of these corrupt Democrat states, and get the abusers of the system brought to justice at long last.
