Trump Drops Some Hard Truths on Dems, Van Hollen About Abrego Garcia and Their Future Prospects

In a new phone interview with NBC News on Saturday, President Donald Trump had some direct hard truths to drop on the Democrat Party and people like Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland who seem to believe the strategy of standing with illegal aliens and alleged gang members like Kilmar Abrego Garcia instead of the safety of Americans will turn the tide from losing elections. I'll get back to that in a minute.

One of the most compelling parts of the president's phone conversation with "Meet the Press" host Kristen Welker was about Abrego Garcia's return to the U.S. to face trial on new federal charges connected to human trafficking, with Trump giving more insight into how it came about:

President Donald Trump on Saturday said that it wasn’t his decision to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador, back to the U.S. to face federal charges, saying the “Department of Justice decided to do it that way, and that’s fine.”

“That wasn’t my decision,” Trump said of Abrego Garcia’s return in a phone call with NBC News on Saturday.

“It should be a very easy case” for federal prosecutors, the president added.

Pres. Trump also spoke about new rumblings on social media about the Jeffrey Epstein files, telling Welker "[t]hat’s called ‘old news,’ that’s been old news, that has been talked about for years," continuing by noting "Even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it.”

Back to the Dems and their prospects of winning elections by glomming on to illegals, and Trump's opinion of Van Hollen cozying up to "Maryland father" Abrego Garcia. It's no surprise to anyone that the president did not hold back here:

“He’s a loser. The guy’s a loser. They’re going to lose because of that same thing. That’s not what people want to hear. He’s trying to defend a man who’s got a horrible record of abuse, abuse of women in particular. No, he’s a total loser, this guy.”

As far as the dustup with tech CEO Elon Musk earlier this week, the president brushed it off by saying he's just been "too busy doing other things" to reestablish communications with him, adding that while he suggested a few days back the U.S. might cancel its contracts with Musk's companies, SpaceX and Tesla, and "[he would] be allowed to do that [as president]," it's not something he's since given "any thought" to.

He did mention, as is his wont, winning the 2024 election "in a landslide. I gave [Elon] a lot of breaks, long before this happened, I gave him breaks in my first administration," adding that Trump "saved his life in [his] first administration."

Sounds like Pres, Trump's been busy, you know, running the executive branch instead of paying attention to the talking heads and pols buzzing on about the topic du jour--which nearly always blows over as quickly as a monsoon summer storm in the Sonoran desert. Imagine someone in our government actually buckling down and doing his or her job. How novel!
