It’s happening, just as many people expected. Monday afternoon the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the Biden administration’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, Merrick Garland, to the full Senate, as Manu Raju of CNN reported via Twitter:
Merrick Garland’s nomination approved by Senate Judiciary, with Grassley, Graham, Cornyn and Tillis voting with Democrats to advance the pick to the floor. Sasse, Lee, Hawley, Cotton, Kennedy, Cruz and Blackburn voted NO
As RedState’s Bonchie shared in the piece he wrote last week (linked above) on the de facto hearings, this result was not a surprise to anyone with common sense. And as we also wrote, the Democrats had to wrangle with Committee Chair Lindsey Graham to even get confirmation hearings for Garland — since, as you may remember, they were still gung-ho about impeaching President Trump for a second time just a few weeks ago, instead of, you know, doing the work of the American people.
Now, the progressive left seems to be totally bummed out with their solid buddy on the right, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Never Trump), whom they were delighted with when he voted to impeach Trump this year. Right now? Not so much.
Here’s a tweet thread from The Nation’s “Justice Correspondent,” whatever that is:
I mean, @BenSasse not voting to confirm Merrick Garland is peak Ben Sasse "I like to talk as if I have principles, but don't actually." https://t.co/j2JGnUB2P1

She clearly wasn’t having it:
Ben Sasse is the high school history teacher who only took the job because he wants to coach the basketball team and gives all the black kids Cs because they wrote about slavery on their final paper without mentioning Abraham Lincoln.

And here was Washington Post “Republican” columnist Jennifer Rubin’s predictible response to Sasse’s betrayal, or something:
surprised at Sasse for nixing a thoroughly experienced, honorable AG. Simply no reason other than to mollify the MAGA base. The rest to be expected

The move by the Nebraska Republican lawmaker also let some on the Left vent about the evil people on our side, as is their wont:
So Sasse has decided to join the Sedition Caucus after all.
That's worth remembering folks.

Including this “sports” contributor, who wrote:
Why is Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz even senators? These people elect them to make changes if they’re going to continuously vote no on every little last thing then why are they worthy of representation if they aren’t doing what they were elected to do: To be a lawmaker
But are these reactions any surprise, readers?
As my colleague Streiff pointed out in mid-February, the Left is still “lying” and “sniveling” over the facts surrounding Garland not getting a confirmation hearing to fill the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat — four years later. They’re truly allergic to the truth.
Besides, I’m surprised it took the Left this long to realize Sasse truly has no convictions to hold to, which I reminded you all about during now-Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearings last fall.
