Many Americans will spend at least part of today — the 19th anniversary of September 11, 2001 — thinking back to that day and remembering where they were and what they were doing when they learned of the attacks.

My colleague Susie Moore began this somber day by sharing two, such efforts: one, a more personal reminiscence, the other — while still firsthand — comes from someone who was there when the Towers fell.

Now, Fox News’ Janice Dean has added in her memories this year, in a Twitter thread.

She writes:

This picture was taken a few months after September 11, 2001 for a @VanityFair piece about the surviving firefighters of @FDNY Engine 40/Ladder 35.  The writer was #DavidHalberstam. The photographer @JonasKarlsson. They lost 12 men that day.  My husband Sean is on the far right.

Later, she continues:

3) Here are the faces of the good men that died on 9/11 in my husbands firehouse 19 years ago as they ran into the burning towers in lower Manhattan to try to save others.  God Bless them, their families and the @FDNY #NeverForget911

Then lists their names:

Before the first image in this thread, Dean adds:

2) Our friend Ray Pfeifer is standing next to him in the picture. We lost Ray to 9/11 related cancer, but Ray fought while he was sick to ensure fellow first responders would have access to health care. We miss him, but his legacy lives on with his family and

That last tweet points to another fact about the 9/11 attacks that’s worth remembering: not every victim died on that day. Up to September 2019, 441 first responders have died due to illnesses likely related to the rescue and clean-up efforts — 241 NYPD police officers and 200 FDNY firefighters have been lost since. Compare those numbers to the fallen on that day: 23 officers and 343 firefighters.

It seems only fitting to end with this: Country music legend Alan Jackson put his remembrances of that day to music and gave us a poignant “snapshot” of 9/11 with “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning”:
