The Socialists Are Coming. They Have a Plan. Do We?

August used to be a quiet time of year. Many people were on a vacation or a staycation. Plenty of parking in my small town's downtown even at lunch hour. School did not restart back then until the day after Labor Day.

Even presidents took vacations in those days. Air conditioning was something for movie theaters. And the Midwestern humidity encouraged slower movements outdoors.

The pace of news has changed drastically now. Big news seems to erupt almost every day. And to my eyes, some of it is often puzzling news.

Things are happening these days that would have been inconceivable back then.

Voters are willingly electing avowed socialists to state and federal legislatures and proto-communists to run the nation's largest city. And far too many people are just shrugging.

Those same destructive elements are seeking to take effective control of the nation's oldest political party while its feckless leadership, shamed by defeats in 2024, acquiesces as if it's inevitable. Or worse, desirable if it means so-called Democrats can retain political power. The dangers are real.

These people are not out to improve society with their tempting offers of so many freebies. They are out to wreck it and construct a new society with far fewer freedoms and far more government controls.

That's the topic of this week's audio commentary, which you can hear by clicking on the flag here. And then leave your own reactions and Comments below.

One of those misbegotten members of the Biden Syndicate is struggling to come back into public life.

There's no demand for it or for him. He's not been invited. His life trajectory is completely unsavory. So, what is the man up to really? I explored the unusual mystery in this week's Sunday column: A Biden Is Back — But Why?

The most recent audio commentary concerned the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the nation's energy savings account designed to get the country through an oil shortage that threatens national security, the economy, and, in reality, our everyday way of life.

Donald Trump worked to get the vast Gulf Coast salt caverns virtually full of hundreds of millions of barrels of oil by the end of his first term, taking advantage of low global oil prices.

Alas, Joe Biden sold off a large chunk of those hard-earned savings for political reasons. He reaped an immense profit at soaring world prices, which, being a Democrat, he quickly spent.

Now, the country is left with the lowest oil reserves since the SPR was founded more than a half-century ago. And President Trump is trying to refill it, but at currently inflated global prices.
