Anti-Woke Actress: Marvel Star Defends Macho Men Unafraid to 'Punch Someone in the Face'

We live in a world of relentless messaging. And amid proclamations by the Powers That Be, men and women aren’t so lauded for being — well — men and women.

Such is certainly the case in modern media and film, where commonly-occurring differences between the sexes are concerned. These days, masculine men and feminine women are panned as passé. If you want to be your ostensible best, defy convention and heckle your hormones.

One Hollywood heavyweight recently observed as much. On Instagram, Evangeline Lilly — star of TV hit Lost and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp movie series — posed something potent:

“Why are we only applauding masculinity in women and villainizing it in men? And why are we only applauding femininity in men and debasing it in women?”

Evangeline isn’t against effeminate males or ferocious females; she’s just into inclusion — the real kind. The British Columbia native has likely been exposed to some country boys:

“Why can’t we just allow for all of it? Why do we feel the need to vilify a man wearing sh*t-kicker boots, driving a pickup truck who’s not afraid to punch someone in the face, but if they were a woman, they would be the epitome of cool?”

It’s not a bad question — for her own industry. At the contemporary center of its stories, Tinseltown appears intent upon serving up “strong women.” But La La Land’s only conceit of such seems to be a birthing person with little emotion, an intensely-focused career quest, and/or a bit of the old ultra-violence. Wanna create a character with strength but also a cervix? Install her into a boardroom and add an icy inflection; or stick a cigar in her mouth and accessorize her with an AK. A devoted wife/mother? That’s woefully weak.

In our enlightened era, skirting convention is all the rage. Speaking of skirts, sometimes institutionally-approved girl power is packed in the pants:

As for Evangeline and her traditional thinking, this isn’t the actress’s first the-heck-with-Hollywood rodeo. In January of last year, she attended a Washington D.C. rally against COVID mandates. At the time, she wrote as follows on social media:

“I was in DC…to support bodily sovereignty…

I believe nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will, under threat of:
 violent attack
, arrest or detention without trial
, loss of employment, homelessness
, starvation
, loss of education
, alienation from loved ones
, (or) excommunication from society… … I understand the world is in fear, but I don’t believe that answering fear with force will fix our problems.”

CBS News wasn’t impressed:

Lilly posted photos from the rally to her Instagram on Thursday. …

She concluded the carousel of images in the post with a quote suggesting that COVID mandates are the beginning of “tyranny.”

With over 211 million Americans and four billion people worldwide fully vaccinated, there is a vast amount of medical evidence that COVID vaccines are safe and effective at reducing the risk of severe illness and saving lives. In December, when the U.S. surpassed 800,000 confirmed deaths from COVID-19, an analysis from the Peterson Center on Healthcare and the Kaiser Family Foundation estimated 163,000 of those deaths could have been prevented by vaccines.

She also spoke out in 2020. Mic.com, among many detractors, colored her idiotic:

The internet is letting too many celebrities act like idiots during a pandemic.

Evangeline Lilly became the latest Hollywood personality to espouse a problematic opinion about coronavirus on Thursday. The Lost star Instagrammed her morning tea with the caption, “Just dropped my kids off at gymnastics camp. They all washed their hands before going in. They are playing and laughing.” She hashtagged it #businessasusual. …

People chastised Evangeline Lilly for her laissez-faire attitude about coronavirus, but the actress only doubled-down, insinuating the pandemic is a political hoax to enforce martial law or something. Lilly also said she and her kids are currently living with her father, who has stage four leukemia (one of the highest-risk demographics), making this whole episode even more baffling.

“Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices,” Lilly wrote.

The amount of privilege and ignorance her words exposed is almost… unfathomable.

And now, Evangeline’s unfathomably up-voting cowboys who aren’t afraid of a fight. Continuing her point this month on Instagram:

“Why is a man who loves makeup, cries easily and stays at home to tend to the domestic responsibilities valiant, but a woman who does the same is pathetic?”

Also egregiously, she’s a fan of grace:

“Grace and charity are cornerstones of a thriving society and should not be abandoned. We need them like we need democracy, justice and peace. And, without them, we can’t have democracy, justice or peace.”

She saved perhaps the most problematic part of her post for last. Evangeline ended with this quote from a Christian icon:

“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”

Most definitely not your typical Hollywood take.
