Brad Pitt, Journalists, & the City Push Back Against Boston's Straight Pride Parade, But the Rally Gets a Hilariously Unexpected Grand Marshal

And after a whirlwind of a while away…I’m back.

So here we go.

Personally, I don’t understand the celebrate-oneself state of contemporary culture. I could give many examples of this, but I suspect they’d only serve to make a disproportionate number of people mad. Let’s just say that we live in a world of the selfie stick and the unboxing video — a filmed commemoration of someone giving themself a present — and it ain’t good.

Virtue signaling? Online shrines to oneself via social media? Empowerment memes? Thumbs down. To me, one of the most devastating components of modern society is narcissism. I believe no one can find true happiness within; happiness is found through charity, thoughtfulness, and kindness to others. Not in shouting how special you are. That’s all emptiness.

Having said that, here’s an interesting story along the lines. Draw (and share) your own conclusions.

Boston’s having a Straight Pride parade.

And dsuzannemayer of Consequence of Sound — as published on Yahoo News — is less than enthused.

She writes:

The recently reported straight pride parade in Boston (no, we’re not linking back to news of it) is gaining traction in and around the city, with parade organizers demanding that their First Amendment right to make themselves into a public spectacle be honored.

Enter actor Brad Pitt: Event organizers designated Joe Black himself as the…actually, here’s how dsuzanne describes it:

[B]rad Pitt, who parade organizers have chosen to designate as the face of the upcoming spectacle/dubiously valid protest, has issued a legal warning for organizers to stop using him as a public symbol of the endeavor…

So four things:

  • Boston’s having a parade celebrating heterosexuality.
  • They’re using Brad Pitt as the face.
  • He’s threatening to sue.
  • dsuzannemayer’s determined to really slam the parade.

Here’s more of her attack:

Accepting that a concept like the suggested parade doesn’t belong in any reasonable, civilized society, organizers nevertheless insist that they’re within their legal rights to celebrate something that has never been disputed at any point in human existence: the sovereignty of straight people to celebrate themselves, whether through House Hunters episodes or the music of the Dave Matthews Band.

The reported parade is meant to take place in early August, well after Pride month has concluded, and far too late for anybody but the thirstiest purported “activists” to care.

That’s a lot of disdain. And music confusion — since when is the Dave Matthews Band iconically heterosexual?

More about Brad, from TMZ…the celebrity news outlet also seems none too stoked about the parade:

Brad Pitt is no mascot, but ESPECIALLY not for the notorious upcoming Straight Pride Parade … and he’s doing what he can to put a stop to the idiocy.

As you may have heard … a small group of straight men in Boston — in an apparent retort to June being LGBTQ Pride Month — have announced an upcoming parade to “celebrate the diverse history, culture, and contributions of the straight community.”

Currently, their website claims this community has adopted Pitt as its mascot, and congratulates him for being “the face of this important civil rights movement.”

They’re morons:

As for the planned parade … the morons in charge say it will be a one-day event sometime in August, and they are requesting the same route as the Boston Pride Parade.

The parade has unsurprisingly been met with scorn and has a lot of folks shaking their damn heads.

Outspoken liberal actor Chris Evans (here and here) took to Twitter last week to condemn the rally. You can savor his thoughts in RedState writer Brandon Morse’s Friday article “What’s The Matter With A Straight Pride Parade?

TMZ reported the story Thursday. On Friday, it noted Brad had been removed from the parade’s official website.

Oh — and here’s a fantastically unexpected turn in the sordid tale: The celebration’s grand marshal has been officially announced, and it’s…Milo Yiannopoulos.

Parade sponsor Super Happy Fun America claims “straight people are an oppressed majority.” Milo’ll be there with bells on to represent.

His statement:

“I might technically be a sequined and perfectly coiffed friend of Dorothy’s, but I’ve spent my entire career advocating for the rights of America’s most brutally repressed identity — straight people — so I know a thing or two about discrimination. This parade is a gift to anyone, male or female, black or white — gay and transgender allies, too! — who will stand with us and celebrate the wonder and the majesty of God’s own heterosexuality. Men, bring your most toxic selves. Women, prepare to burn your briefcases! Because it’s great to be straight, and we’re not apologizing for it anymore. We’re Here, Not Queer.”

But motivational author Jamie Fell still won’t be there:

So there ya go. Happy Sunday.

Somebody who’s not happy: Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.

I can’t wait to read your comments. Marvel over a video about the controversy here.
