During a routine traffic stop Sunday, a deadly shootout occurred between a California police officer and a Mexican national.
Napa County Sheriff’s Deputy Riley Jarecki approached a car containing 48-year-old Javier Hernandez Morales. She walked from the passenger side to the driver’s window, and when she reached the door, Morales suddenly fired at her.
If you want to see what cops are up against — at any given moment — please check out the video, courtesy of Officer Jarecki’s bodycam, at the bottom of this article.
And then consider this: ICE had issued four different detainers against Morales related to suspicion of driving while intoxicated, selling liquor to a minor, battery of a peace office, and probation violations. Three detainers had been sent to Napa County Jail in 2014, 2015, and 2016. One had also been lodged with the Sonoma County Jail in ’16.
None of the detainers were honored, thanks to California’s sanctuary laws.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released a statement, as reported by San Francisco’s ABC 7:
“It’s unfortunate that our law enforcement partners and the community are subjected to dangerous consequences because of inflexible state laws that protect criminal aliens.”
Morales had been deported THREE TIMES — twice in 2007 and once in 2010.
Amazingly, Officer Riley Jarecki wasn’t hurt. She shot Morales dead.

Meanwhile, some Democrats want to abolish ICE (here, here, and here).
